I In The Cartoon Analysis

The Editorial Cartoon by the Indianapolis cartoonist Gary Marvel, named “Children playing mobile devices” gives a new perspective on a old traffic signalization meant to carefully warned driver. This cartoon presents a traffic signal which says “CAUTION. Children Playing,” then you proceed to see 2 girls and 3 boys playing with some kind of mobile or tablet while sitting and walking outside. But, ironically all the way in the back you see an actual recreation park with a basket hoop, swings, and a teeter-totter. It is a satirical and mocking cartoon of how today’s generations are so hyper-technology dependent and that is their new way of diversion. The author gives us his ironic intake in how "Children playing" has a whole new meaning in today’s generation.
In the Cartoon created by Gary Marvel one of the first thing you noticed is a well-know recognized traffic sign, such as the Caution children playing.
Because, even if you driver or a pedestrian, you are familiar with such a sign. It is a hazard sign, which often its use to alert the driver to proceed with caution and to drive slow near parks or areas where children are conglomerate. Meanwhile, in this cartoon Marvel created a mocking cartoon which leaves the reader to create an opinion on how today’s technology its taking over in how children have fun. He invite you to participate on a important matter because kids are not experiencing childhood like it use to be, they are constant locking their eyes on a little screen of their tablets. There are not running around in parks playing Cops and Robber or Hide and Seek. He does a great job capturing with drawing the essence of the main purpose he is trying to communicate. In addition, the text “fits” for the sake of sarcastically make fun of this new generation in relationship of an old traffic
sign.

As a matter of fact this image is fairly realistic since technology is taking over our children’s lives in this generation. If we were to remove the caption "Children playing" has a whole new meaning in this generation,” in the editorial cartoon made by Marvel, the meaning will still persist because we can definitely notice how the kids are rather playing with their devices then on the park in the back. As such, the words here are additives because add significance to the drawing and aid us to add an inductive meaning and draw inferences in the author’s message. Most certain this is a satirical cartoon in which Marvel is looking to shame individual of society itself. In this image, you can clearly see that the use of this sign is completely obsolete and outdated, because nowadays kid are rather playing candy crush sitting on a beach, then getting their knee scrap while running or climbing trees in a park. In spite of the fact that this cartoon is designate to be comical, Marvels greater purpose is to contract social criticism to draw attention on a wider issue in society.
