of feeling good about helping others and seeing the smile it puts on their faces. If I do become a Post-Secondary teacher I know I will have no problem communicating with my students, interacting with them class or when I would assign group work and answering any questions they have. My interests involve managing or influencing people by using verbal and social skills. I enjoy leading a group to reach their goals or desired outcomes. I would be overjoyed to see a student of mine accomplish a goal they have achieved because of how much excitement it would bring into their lives. My values that matter the most to me are innovation and accomplishment. Innovation is a value I ask myself questions such as would I have the opportunity to suggest and develop new ways of doing things? Would my work assignments vary so I would not be doing the same things every day? These are questions I answer for me to have the challenge and opportunity to do my work in new ways and with independence. Accomplishment is a value I am proud of whenever I feel my work is important and contributing. I am determined to set a variety of goals for myself everyday which is a choice I am going to fulfill in my career. My career choice matches these preferences because it pertains to a caring heartfelt personality, encouraging students or readers to reach their desired outcomes, showing them different ways to complete work independently and always contribute to feel a sense of accomplishment for yourself and the community. However, the career choice that fits me the most at this point in my journey is journalism. I want to be able to write my own column for the New York Times based on my own opinions, but also from the readers’ suggestions. I want the readers to know their ideas are important for the whole world to see and acknowledge any possibilities. The daily news becomes discouraging to citizens at times, instead let’s make it positive! Without taking this course I would have never known the possibility of any future career choices are developed into a better student academically. One important thing I learned from this course was to ask for help right away when needed. I normally wait until the last minute, particularly when time runs out. Although after we read over strategies to relieve stress and test anxiety I put those methods to action and I benefited from them by asking help prior to any test. My test results changed dramatically not only in math, but in three of my other classes. In regards to relieving my text anxiety, I make a time- management plan. Before college started, I wouldn’t set goals for myself such as what assignments needed to get done to reach the deadline. I knew what I had to accomplish the day I did homework, but didn’t have a concrete schedule week by week. I learned how to create a time- management plan by creating a plan for the week, keeping track of my time in between homework for different classes, identifying which major tasks I need to accomplish first, and having a stable calendar. The impact this has had on my college success has helped me overcome my fear of anxiety.
Starting college can be a very scary moment for incoming students; consequently, there is helpful advice supported by college students. My advice to you to is to prepare yourselves to become an independent adult. You will be held responsible for turning in all assignments on time and completing tests the day they are due. If you are missing any assignments your professors won’t hunt you down; so, you can turn it in for points. It’s all up to you if you turn it in or not. College is an opportunity to surround yourself with new friends, new experiences and a time to figure out who you really are as a person and what you want to accomplish in life down the road. College is a way to keep your mind open to any possibilities that will lead you into your future.
