IEP Step

First step in creating an IEP is pre-referral identifying that the student has a disability. The teacher or school a school professional may request a referral for the child to evaluate to determine if he/she have a disability to qualify for special education. The important part of IEP stage is to document and explain the child difficulties and challenges they are facing. During this process professional will observe the classroom to make sure that the classroom can accommodate and have modifications for the child, also the professional will look at different types instructional interventions as well as monitoring the student taking notes on they are progressing (Smith,2014). Second step is referral only if the pre-referral was not successful
in determining if the child has a disability. Anyone can request a special educations referral such as parents, social service worker and doctors. However, there may be a waiting period if the child disability is not severe. Third step are known as identification is when a multidisciplinary team determines the disability and type of service the child will or may need.
