IEP Step
First step in creating an IEP is pre-referral identifying that the student has a disability. The teacher or school a school professional may request a referral for the child to evaluate to determine if he/she have a disability to qualify for special education. The important part of IEP stage is to document and explain the child difficulties and challenges they are facing. During this process professional will observe the classroom to make sure that the classroom can accommodate and have modifications for the child, also the professional will look at different types instructional interventions as well as monitoring the student taking notes on they are progressing (Smith,2014). Second step is referral only if the pre-referral was not successful

    Assessment and identification are key elements in education, in particular, special education. Assessing students is essential to knowing where to begin with a student. No matter what the student's ability is or is being, they all need to be assessed. After the assessments are done and evaluated, a teacher should have a better understanding of what level of performance the students are in the classroom. More than likely not all students will perform equally. The child needs further identification, a teacher needs to initiate a meeting with that diagnostician and get the students started in the Response To Intervention (RTI) process.
