Classroom Observation Summary
My classroom observation took place at Iberville Elementary School in small rural community in Plaquemine, Louisiana. School is dismissed for summer so I observed the Super Why camp which is a continuation of the regular school session for pre-k students. I observed Mrs. Jamie Hart and Mrs. Ondria Presley’s (paraprofessional) Pre- Kindergarten class. The class consisted pre kindergarten students ages 4 and 5. I joined them shortly after their breakfast was over. They were so excited to see that they had company and a new face. During my observation I sat on the other side of the room, so I would not distract the students or disrupt the lesson being taught. I wanted …show more content…
They knew exactly what their routine was and what to do without being told. After restrooms and water they entered the classroom and sat in their assigned seat on the large rectangle rug which consisted of alphabets for circle time. They began with their usual good morning song and I thought it was pretty neat because the song introduces each other and allows everyone to say good morning to each other individually. Mrs. Jamie and Mrs. Presley sat down on the floor with their students so they were at eye level. Mrs. Jamie sat and did read aloud and explained a review lesson to the students. During the observation I observed Mrs. Jamie sitting and teaching the students math and calendar. They then began to recite the alphabets in sign language. So amazing and beautiful. The students then returned to their assigned tables and began working on handwriting activities and activities related to the review lesson. After about 30 mins the students went into their centers for center time while some worked at the back table with Mrs. Jamie and then to …show more content…
They often times display mixed emotions in different circumstances’. For children this age this is normal and, I noticed MRs. Jamie explaining this to a parent who brought a student in late. Stress, overtired, or grief may be reflected by crying. Crying seems to be a good stress reliever for children. I would tell the parents to allow them to cry, they will get a sense of their emotions and how to deal with them eventually. Although many met their goals at this point in time, others have not. They continue to work on their goals until they become successful. At all times the students seemed to be interested in the work and listened very well when either of the teachers spoke. This indicates to me that the students are engaged in learning and truly enjoy having her as their teacher. The students in this class worked as a team and independently on projects. Throughout the whole class Mrs. Jamie and Mrs. Presley were always nurturing, warm and loving and stern when needed to be. They did a fabulous job with all of their students; they interacted with all of them. I felt that the flow and set up of the classroom was sufficient for the grade level. This set up, I would consider in my own classroom someday. It was very organized, the students had only labels on everything in the class but also pictures to go with it. I learned that it takes a lot of patience to become a pre - kindergarten teacher. Observing this class
