Ice Fishing Essay
Ice fishing is a winter sport that requires thick ice on frozen lakes, determination, warm clothes, and a whole lot of patients. I have been ice fishing since I was a little kid starting when I was around 7 or 8 my grandfather would take me out on the lake in front of our house every weekend in the winter and slowly teach me the ways and tricks of how to catch large quantities of fish. I am from upstate New York which means our region gets slammed with feet of snow every year and it drops below zero in November which makes the perfect conditions for me to go ice fishing. From the start of around late November to sometimes pushing into early May all the lakes in the area where I live freeze over enough to where you can walk out on in from the shore. One day in the …show more content…
I grabbed all my gear threw it in the sled and headed out to Glen Lake which is a smaller glacier melt lake which was totally frozen over and i had the benefit of walking right out my door onto the lake. It’s a small beautiful lake surrounded by mountains which is about 20 minutes away from the nearest heavily populated town so it’s quaint and not a lot of people are out on the lake at once so sitting out there ice fishing is a calm, tranquil hobby that can really help you relieve stress and just relax. I started by setting up my shanty and cut a hole right in it for jigging for shad while I'm waiting after i set up all my lines, so then I set up 6 Tip-Ups in two lines right inline with the vision of the shanty door so i could see when i have a flag up. So I sat down and was jigging for a while and must have lost track of time because when I looked up I had two flags up right back to back with each other which left me with a huge problem. At that moment I ran over and stood between the two flags up and had to decide which one i was going to get because i could only choose one because by the time i got one fish up it would give the other one time to realize it was getting caught and go

Taking this single piece of information, imagine how simple predicting a lake's first late winter panfish peak is. You will rarely miss the bet by driving to your target lake, taking a few steps on to the ice to observe the snow conditions, and making your decision from there. If the heavy snow is gone, go for it. If not, head southward, or to a shallower lake nearby. Unless you've got inside information that tips you off to active fish before the snow melt-off, skip trying these lakes beforehand.…

When fishing for largemouth bass it is important that you study the water. it doesn't even hurt to ask others if u know any that have fished there. I have fished many of ponds before where I have heard a lot of great things about a pond and didn't catch a thing. That is the game of fishing some people enjoy it ad some people would rather not “waste their time” . in the sport of bass fishing you have to have patience. There could be hours that u don't catch a thing but the only thing u can do is keep fishing. Waiting to catch a fish can be extremely boring at times but what i have heard from others is that it is just best if u think about the outcome of waiting to catch a fish. And what i like to do is think about catching my PB (personal best).…

“You’ll just be cold now and not hungry.” Everyone got settled in we got our poles set up with the right weights and lures. That proved to be quite difficult due the fact that our fingers hadn’t fully thawed yet. We dropped our lines into the water and hoped for the best especially with the luck we’ve had the past few years in the same general area. We fished for a while and didn’t get any bites so we added more weight to the lines so the bait would sink deeper and hopefully that would be where the fish were. We dropped our lines into the water and almost immediately my father had something on his line. He reeled in and the fish continued to fight. The fish came out of the water and flopped onto the ice above gasping for air. The monster he reeled in was a walleye no more than five inches long. “I didn’t know we were fishing for sharks.” I said…

Some years it's really tough to catch something, then there was like the summer of ‘07. We caught over 300 fish in that one week. Fishing is really special to me, my grandpa was basically a father figure to me and we bonded through it. He would take me every weekend and fish until the sun goes down. Now that he is gone, I find in myself to keep fishing, since it has become a true love and passion. My uncle has filled that father figure role in my life these past couple years. Shows up to my golf meets, supports my decisions in life, pushes me to be better every day. He is a very careful kind of guy. He is always prepared for the worst, even when we are our fishing in the boat. As the week goes on it becomes more challenging to not sleep in for an extra hour. We really didn't get out onto the water until nine that morning. There was still some fog out on the water, but it was good enough to drive across the lake. See, from where we put in the boat is around twenty miles from where we actually fish. This was always a problem because this would eat up all the gas in the tank. Later that day, it was around four. It takes around 1 hour to drive the boat back to the ramp. I'm starting to pack…

There is no reason for me to stop fishing. I cannot stop, nor will I. Sure, there may be some discomfort, but I will never admit defeat to the elements. As long as I stand on my two feet, I will continue to fish, continue to inhale the fresh dawn air, and continue to feel the crisp morning breeze in my face. My mind is much too strong to lose to my body. If I wake up in the morning, I will cast my net, reel in my catch, and head for home, head back to my ungrateful household. After all the sacrifices I have made, this is the thanks I get.…
