Part 1:
What’s your name?
My name is Philip Morris
Do you work or study?
I work as a Civil Engineer for a local company here.
Where are you originally from?
I’m originally from South London, although I moved here with my parents when
I was about 9 years old.
What kind of food do you like?
My favourite food is Italian pasta and in particular my favourite Italian dish is pasta carbonara
Have you always liked that food?
Well, I don’t think I actually tried it until I was about 16, when I travelled to Italy for the summer, but when I had it for the first time - I immediately loved it and since then it’s always been my favourite Italian dish.
In the future, if you have children, what food will you recommend they eat?
Healthy food. I think it’s very important for children to develop healthy eating habits when they are young as the benefits of healthy eating are well documented now. You know what they say – you are what you eat – and it’s very true. Many children are overweight these days because of the amount of junk food they consume, so I would try to get them to eat food that is good for them
– you know, a well balanced diet.
Is there any food that you liked when you were a child but you don’t like now?
Yes, I used to like a lot of sweet things, in particular chocolate cake and icecream, but not anymore. I prefer to eat fruit and other healthy foods now. I actually feel a lot better for it.
How has food in your country changed since you were a child?
It’s changed a lot. When I was a child the food here was still quiet traditional, but now it’s very different due to the many different cultural influencesin our society. It’s definitely more cosmopolitan and international. People here now eat food from all over the world on a regular basis and traditional food seems to be a lot less popular than it was.

Part 2:
Talk about an enjoyable family event (such as a birthday party or family dinner) you attended, please say:
- when and where

Some ate from their heritage often and others hardly did. This most likely can connect back to how willing they are to associate with their culture as we discussed in class. One friend constantly converses with me about his Mexican background, and this showed when I asked what foods they ate based on their heritage. They usually ate from this background quite often. While another didn’t even quite remember what background they hailed from.…

J.D. remembers seeing people cook food on large grills and taking it back to their homes. Much of the food was heavily spiced, and somewhat unusual to him. He remembers eating ribs, but they did not look like pork ribs at all. To this day he is still unsure of the type of meat he was served. Some of the food was similar to that in America, but most was quite different and influenced by Spanish and Mayan…

I conducted an interview with my 59 year old nana. I asked her things about the food she ate when she was younger. Most of the stuff she ate when she was younger came from the garden or straight from the butcher shop. The most common things she ate was pork straight from the butcher shop, fish, and greens from beets and dandelions. This made me think about the things we eat now. The most popular foods I eat now are things like canned vegetables or packaged meat from the grocery store. The…

Many cultures in all parts of the world have totally different ways of celebrating and doing things, then North America does, but these societies are slowly changing and beginning to have some of the same customs. Cultural globalization is the diffusion of ideas and values around the world to strengthen social relations. Food is a major part of globalization as one can get Asian or “Chinese food” almost anywhere in the world and not just in China. While the food is Americanized it is still a Chinese culture in which was spread around the world.
