If I Had To Have An Impact On My Life
If anyone or anything was to have an impact on my life, it would for sure be my father. He is the reason why I view a lot of things like I do. The reason why I don’t like alcoholics, reason why I don’t like violence, reason why I don’t like yelling/arguing. He has had the biggest impact on my life than anyone. July 18, 2001 is when it all started. When I was born. My mama always told me that he wasn’t there when I was born and that he took our jeep to go get drunk and such. I’m not sure when my mother divorced my dad, I was too young to remember. I don’t really remember much of my childhood with him other than bad stuff. After my mom divorced my dad, he went to move in with my Memaw. My brother, sister, and I would love to go there to see our dad, but it would never work out. Either he would be there, I would always run into his arms, or he wouldn’t be there. It was always when he wasn’t there when things would go down hill. We would all sit in the living room waiting for him to get back, but as soon as he would get back, we would regret it right away. He would walk into the house drunk off his mind and then my Memaw would try to get onto him for getting drunk after he knew his kids would …show more content…
Those were the best memories. My uncle Cory, who I have grown closer to after many years of being let down by my dad, my cousins, my sister and brother, my Memaw, and I would all go up to see him. We would go out to eat, then go on bike rides, all hang out, play on the playground. It was almost like we were a family again, but then after about 4 weeks of not seeing any of them, I went to church with my Memaw and I asked out how my Dad was doing. Then I found out he got kicked out of rehab because of his old friend alcohol. I was tired of being hurt by him so I messaged him telling him how I feel and that I can’t do it anymore and that I didn’t want to see or talk to him until he cleaned his act

That was the day that my grandpa passed away. Every single part of that date is engrained in my memory. My parents had driven up to Wisconsin, and my older sister Lauren drove home for college to stay with me. It wasn’t out of the normal for my parents to quickly leave, so I didn’t think much of it. I remember going to hang out with Tatum, my best friend of the time. It was a nice day outside, so of course we were outside playing on the trampoline and doing all our weird routines like we always did. Her family, who was like a second family to me, decided to go out to eat so they brought me along. We went to La Charitas. I remember how Mrs. Teeple pulled out a funny card game for us to play, and I remember Tatum cutting out faces in her tortilla, making us all laugh. When we got back to the house we saw that my sister called, so I said bye to the Teeples and walked one minute down the road to my house. Lauren, who is one of the most emotional in the family, was left with the task of telling me that my grandpa had passed away. I had just grabbed a snack of chocolate cheerios as she started to tell me the news. I didn’t know how to react, so I ran into the basement directly to the furthest corner I could find. Lauren tried talking to me, but I wanted to be by myself. One of the hardest things I have ever done was talking to my dad on the phone after finding out. He called to tell me the plans, that he was coming home to get us, and…

When someone asks you the question, “who has impacted your life?” I’m sure we all can list many amazing people. When people ask me that question one specific person comes to mind, my grandpa, Gordon Westendorf. He saw potential in me at a very young age. He would read to me for hours and hours to allow me to learn as much as i could. He never turned away from a teaching opportunity and always was willing to take time out of his busy day to talk to me or to help me with anything I need.…

I remember the day clearer than any other. I was in 5th grade. My mom sat me down and told me my father would be living in another home. They called it “temporary.” “It will end” “It is not divorce”, they said. This, age nine, is when the constant packing, unpacking and swapping from house to house began. This lasted about a year until my Dad moved back in. We were whole, again. That was the happiest month I can really remember. Having two parents say goodnight to me, not having to repeat each story twice, and meals with someone at each head of the table. Everything was perfect. Until we decided to all go out to a family dinner. At this dinner my parents dropped one word.…

It was fun to be at my cousin's house, though they were all a lot older than me, because they had a wii, a trampoline, and some dogs, but I was also completely in the dark as to what happened, and I feared the worst. When my parents finally came, they told us the story of what had happened the night we went to my cousins. My grandfather had had enough, so he went out to his storage building with a handgun. My grandmother had gotten home, and she noticed him missing. Well aware of his condition and what he could do, she called my parents and the police.…
