In practice it is essential to push yourself to the limit and farther. If you don’t work as hard as possible, then someone else will and you won’t be the best, or even the best you, personally could be. In the weightroom as well, you have to keep going past what you think you can dol. If you neglect to then you won’t get as strong as you could and therefore won't fulfill all of your potential. Also if you are a competitive person then you have to go harder and faster than the next person in order to win.
Furthermore, you must apply yourself in all aspects of the workplace. If you don't put all your effort into making yourself more qualified, then someone else will get the promotion or raise. Also if you don’t go farther than what people expect out of you, then your peers will think less of you. Or one might be considering a career change. If they don’t try the new career then they’ll never know what it could’ve done for you.
In conclusion, Mr. Emerson’s quote is true. It is also a sound quote to live by and use as motivation. I feel that this quote could help a lot of people set their lives back on track. Mr. Emerson must have been a smart man who was kind enough to share his quote and ideas with the world.
