Those three lines are part of the Party’s slogan and they are repeated various times throughout the story. At first glance they are hard to understand as each word seems to be the opposite of the other. If you look into it more they seem very alike. For war is peace, think why we fight wars, for peace. And for freedom is slavery, in my mind I related it to the words yes and no. Yes entitles you to opportunities it gives you freedom. When no is preventing you from that freedom like a slave. I live in a free country but yes isn’t always the answer I or others get. In order to be free you have to have known slavery, and there can’t be an answer as yes if no didn’t exist. Lastly for ignorance is strength I thought of what we ignore, when there are people in a fight we sometimes ignore the fact that is happening. I wouldn’t help because I wouldn’t want to get hurt, I’d want to keep my strength. Therefore me ignoring lets me keep my strength.
