Subject: Strategic Planning for Information Resources (SPIR) Implementation
This is the right moment to have a Strategic Planning for Information Resources (SPIR) for PESCO Mexico because the firm will received benefits. Having SPIR in the firm, the firm will have a good decision making in having resources and the firm will determine what they are will be after a year and the next following years.
Here are three ideas and suggestions from the three vice presidents on their respective divisions about the implementation of SPIR for PESCO Mexico.
Mr. Benito Flores, vice president of manufacturing and sales had an idea and suggested to see manufacturing and sales develop their own strategic plan independently of the rest of the organization - including IS. The advantage is that they have large amount of computing equipment that they can use for their own applications and they are also are familiar with the needs and operation of their department. The disadvantage is that they have no cooperation within the firm.
Mr. Juan Alvarez, president of finance had also an idea and suggestion on developing a single strategic plan for the whole firm. The advantage would be in comes of unity and cooperation among the employees. Disadvantage would be there would be the single strategic plan.
Ms. Betty Wilson, vice president of Information System suggested that IS should prepare the strategic information resources for all of PESCO Mexico and IS should gave the total strategic planning responsibility. The advantage is that they are familiar with all information resources in the firm. The disadvantage, if the issues were not addressed from other divisions, there might be inconsistencies with the plan that might arise.
