Protecting our Border
There are many problems facing America today, everything from rising number of individuals on welfare to the rise in homicides in parts of America. I personally think that one of the greatest problems we face today is illegal immigration. There are many different types of illegal immigration but even more problems that come with each and every way. People have many different opinions about this topic, everything from send the army to “protect” our border to one of the rising favorites “just let them in”. I personally have my own opinion on this topic as well, and complex as it may be, I personally believe it is the right solution. Just imagine if the 65,000-75,000 illegal immigrant could become legal and start paying taxes like any person who lives in America should. The new income for our country could solve thousands of problems for our very own United States of America! There is also something that needs to be made clear: these solutions would apply to any immigrants coming to America. Even though Mexico may send the most that does not mean they would receive any different treatment that an immigrant coming from Canada or any other nation. There are many current laws and regulations in place to become a legal immigrant and virtually everybody is accepted. Some of the simple things that can keep you from gaining citizenship into the United States are if you are a felon, if you have a contagious illness or a few other extremely rare cases someone is turned down for citizenship. With this being said many people ask why people do it the “illegal” way. There is not simple answer to this question but many do it so they don’t have to pay the small fee to become a United States citizen, to smuggle illegal products across the border or some simply to it to save time instead of simply waiting about six months for all their papers to clear so that they could be a “legal” citizen.
