There is a massive aspect of outside and foreign influence that make up American culture. It stretches from something as little as spiritual techniques to something as big as the things citizens eat. Rohit Kumar states, “Eastern spiritual teachings have blossomed in the hearts and lives of Americans. Meditation, yoga, and qigong- the ancient Eastern arts for connecting with the soul- are taught throughout America” (Kumar Para. 3). It is an interesting thought that some citizens which practice yoga may not even know that it is a concept that spawned from immigrants. Lately in the United States there has been an extreme movement of citizens seeking healthier and more organic foods, this is helped by immigrants. Centuries-old techniques from immigrants about cultivating more clean and organic food is valuable cultural knowledge that help citizens on the path to having a healthy diet (Kumar Para. 7). In the field of medicine there is also a great population of citizens who don’t appreciate the United States methods of modern medicine. Kumar also mentions, “Many medical systems that were brought from foreign shores have shown themselves to be effective and have gained wide popularity in American culture” (Kumar Para. 9). There are many different places where immigrants are in the path of danger from conflict within the country or just around the corner. The Syrian crisis is an example of some of the situations that immigrants have been put in that force them to need or want to immigrate to other countries including the United States. 13.5 million People in Syria are in need of humanitarian assistance or immigration due to the violent civil war (Syrian Refugee FAQ.. Para. 10). The Syrian Refugee FAQ mentions that, “Since the Syrian civil war began, as many as 386,000 people have been killed, including nearly 14,000 children, says the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The war has become more deadly since foreign powers joined the conflict” (Syrian Refugee FAQ.. Para. 12). This is a major conflict that has been seen in the news due to its scale and also due to the shear amount of immigrants needing relocation to another country as result of the danger. The main point news sources are focusing on is the responsibility that some say the United States has to the relocation of these immigrants. Many arguments have been sparked debating on whether or not the United States should open its borders to the Syrian refugees and allow for open and easy immigration for them. Some surrounding countries have opened new border crossings and have allowed many of the refugees to immigrate to their country
