Chapter 8 Migration Research Paper.
Migration affects the lives of people and the character of places. There are many different types of push factors and pull factors about immigration that brings immigrants to the United States. Including economic, political, and cultural ways. Immigration has benefited the immigrants and the United States in many ways also. There are a lot of push factors that can make a family to leave their country. The three types of push factors are Political, Environmental and Economic. The political push factors are war and persecution. Persecution is an unfair treatment of others because of who they are or what they believe. For Example, Ahmed …show more content…
Al-Mokalla had to leave Yemen because of the Civil War. He also got taken away to join the army. This is an example of a political push. Another way that can make a family to leave their country is environmental problems like drought, earthquakes, plant disease and starvation. For Example, Ricardo Flores couldn’t afford the Mexican governments fees to dig his wells so he can save his crops from drought. So he ended up having to lose his crops. He didn’t have enough money to pay the government. Another push factors are economic, like having poor farmers and less working people. For Example, Olanre Nwidor from Africa was denied a job as a chemical engineer in Nigeria’s oil industry. He doesn’t have a job, plus the country wasn’t safe.
There are three types of pull factors, Family, Quality of Life and Education. For Family people desire to reunite with families. The young men are often the first members of their family to immigrate to another country. When they find jobs and a place to live they send for their wives, children and parents. For Example, Rachel Tang from China, her dad came to the United States first without his family because he wanted to make sure that he could make it to the United States and he could make money for them to make the journey to America. The Quality of Life pull factors are that they need to be in a place that’s safe. They want more opportunities and freedom in the new country. They also want a better job that pays more. Like Sumatra Singh he was pulled to the United States because of the technology. He’ll make more money in America and after he lives in the United States for one hundred weeks, he can go back to India with a lot more knowledge. Another factor is the education. Immigrants can attend good schools, and older students attend colleges. One out of every fifteen students in the United States was born in another country. For Example, Ahmed Al-Mokalla can put himself through college. Also, Anna Vinski wants to go to a music school in New York so she can fulfill her dream. As a result, students will later decide to make United States their permanent home. There are many benefits to the United States of immigrants.
The Economic Impacts (jobs) is that we depend on the immigrants for labor. We have high skilled immigrants. They built roads and railroads across the continent. They fill jobs in mines and factories. The high skilled workers work as doctors, professors and computer programmers. They also become athletes, musicians, or artists. Others start new businesses. The cultural impacts are that immigrants bring new foods to the United States like sushi, bagels, tacos and pot stickers. It also expands the American knowledge. There are new holidays like St. Patrick’s Day, Chinese New Year and Cinco de Mayo. They learn new music, arts and stories. Immigrants help their new neighbors to learn more about the World. The Economic impacts (taxes) is that Native born workers immigrants who work pay taxes. Immigrant taxes help schools, libraries, and health clinics. high. There are many benefits to migrants coming to the United States.
The Economic Impacts is the loss of such well-educated people. The Social Impacts is they send money back to their families and the payments are called remittances. Some negatives about this are that when young people try to find jobs in another country, families are splintered. Family members may remain separated for many years. Emigrants sometimes don’t return back to their homeland. On the positive side is that the money helps families, schools and improvements in community. The money emigrants send home can have some positive effects. The family may use remittances to care for aging parents or to send their children to school. For Example, Ricardo Flores sends money back to Guanajuanto, and they want to collect money for a new ambulance. This was a way of helping those in Mexico who cant realize their dreams in America. He helped improve his community by trying to collect money for a new ambulance for them in Mexico. The Political Impacts are that refugees’ work hard to bring democracy to their homeland and many refugees have to come to the United States to flee political
unrest. In Conclusion, we all can tell that migration does affect the lives of people and character of places. Without immigrants we wouldn’t have new foods, and new holidays. Another reason is that if we didn’t have immigrants we wouldn’t have enough well educated and high skilled people for jobs. Immigrants also help the United States for taxes and jobs. As you can see there are a lot of ways immigrants benefits for coming to the country and benefits for the country.
