During Reagan’s presidency, the island of Grenada was in a violent event when the prime minister and 40 others were killed (Doc E). He also stated that there were US citizens living on the island, which would be dangerous for our own people. Reagan said, in document E, “… Approximately 1900 United States Army and United States Corps personnel began landing in Grenada.” He wrote this letter to say he was sending help to Grenada, so that the peace could, potentially, be kept in the country. He also stated that “Under these circumstances, we were necessarily concerned about the safety of innocent lives on the island, including those of up to 1,000 United States citizens (Doc E).” So, by going above the constitution, Reagan will be able to protect the island and the US citizens on the island.
To have the power to go beyond the constitution should be one of the president’s power when dealing with war or rebellion, and to protect the lives of US citizens or keep international peace in foreign countries. The presidents throughout history, when taking the action of going beyond the constitution, has helped the US when the south succeeded and when we wanted to help keep international peace. The President needs to have this power in order to become a better leader to its people and help whoever needs
