Central Idea: To teach my audience men and women, how to perform a proper self breast examination.
Introduction: If there was a way to better assist your doctor in diagnosing a problem wouldn’t you want to try. In 2009 40,00 men and women in the United States died from breast cancer. By performing a monthly self-breast examination you can higher your rates of having a more successful recovery. Self-breast examinations are exams you can perform in the comfort of your own home and will help you detect any abnormalities within you breast, between your clinical visits. “You have breast cancer” these four words no one ever expects to hear. After experiencing many family members with this horrible disease and researching countless online sources, I would like to tell you about the benefits to performing monthly self-breast examinations.

I. Self-breast examinations are key in early detection.
A. These numbers are horrifying.
1. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
2. 209,060 people in the United States were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.
3. 40,230 died in 2009 due to breast cancer.
B. One in every 100, breast cancer cases is diagnosed to a man.
1. Breast cancer in men usually goes unnoticed, and ignored and too often results in becoming deadly.
2. Some of the signs are symptoms for men are, nipple discharge usually bloody, lumps, nipple inversion, and occasional pain or itching.
3. Most men are at higher risk if, they are over 65, African American, previously exposed to radiation, or those with family history of breast cancer.
C. Doctor’s believe self-breast examinations save lives.
1. Don’t wait until your annual visit to report an adnormality.
