Sports are beneficial for instance, athletes who play sports tend to have better grades. Athletes who play any type of sport have less time to do homework, accordingly they are better at time management. They maintain an average GPA of a 2.0 or they can't play sports, unless they boost their grades back up. One researcher says, "High quality organized sports helps students earn better grades"("Youth Sports"). This quote states athletes involved in extra academics are able to earn better grades. Sports push athletes to do their best in school all over the nation. If somebody were to play football for Ridgeline High School, that student athlete…
The previously complied literature was analyzed on an individual-level which concluded a positive relationship between athletics and student performance. Revisiting the literature permitted the researchers to reexamine and expand on the research assessing the relationship between athletics using various aggregate measures of academic performance.…
“The Case against High School Sports,” written by Amanda Ripley in October of 2013 argues that high school sports are too competitive and demanding. She thinks that demanding sports are drawing students’ attention away from the main reason why they are in high school- academics. “High School Sports Aren’t Killing Academics,” written by Daniel H. Bowen and Colin Hitt counters Ripley’s article, and states that in their studies sports provide benefits that increase academic success. I agree with Bowen and Hitt because I played sports in high school and I earned good grades, while learning attributes that are important in life such as: discipline, organization, time management, and responsibility. As well as life attributes, I also made many great…
Bibliography: Wilfred Sheed wrote an essay, “Why Sports Matter,” that concentrates on how sports have changed over the past 150 years. Sheed also explains that sports can play an important role in the lives of people by helping them discover who they are and here they want to be. Sports go beyond what goes on in practice or in the game. They help build character and prepare you for many obstacles in life.…
Nearly 65% of children say they participate in sports to be with their friends (Statistic Brain). Sports were established so that the individual could not only exercise, but also to compete against a rival. Just as there are individual sports, there are team sports in high school. The idea of a team sport is that every single person on the field or court must work in unison to have the greatest opportunity to win. In addition to the increasing popularity of sports, the average child’s age when they join a team is decreasing. For example, the age that a child joins a basketball team has shifted from fourth grade to first grade or even kindergarten in the past decade. School is the primary factor when you review the participation in athletics,…
One of the best feelings in the world for me is when I am playing soccer. Soccer is not only a favorite sport of mine but it is one I am good at as well. Perhaps this is why I like it so much. Soccer is fun for me because I know how to play and I am good at it.…
And from that very moment, I realized that soccer isn’t just a sport to me. It’s bigger than that. Soccer has given me many things in life, as well as the ability to collaborate with the people around me, make friends, have good sportsmanship, and practice hard to reach my goals.…
High school sports are an essential part of growth for any well-rounded student. Sports can help with more than just lowering the rates of obesity. According to Michael Lorenc, a JV coach at Jesuit High School, it has been shown that students who play two or three sports tend to get better grades in school. Sport scholarships are also the only way for some students to go to a good college, claims Gulstan Dart, a reporter for KCRA.…
In an increasingly competitive business environment, organizations are seeking to find the key factors that will help them to get ahead of their competitors. One of these factors is how group work can be improved by determining the most essential traits of individual group members. With regards to the Big Five Model, we investigated how group success relates to these five traits: conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness to experience, emotional stability and extroversion. We searched for indications that would support the notion that the personality traits pertaining to the Big Five Model positively affect group success.…
The issue of high school athletics and the role that they play in the lives of student athletes has been a heavily debated topic throughout the last few decades. I myself participated in high school sporting activities, and for me, athletics had a major impact on my life during those four years. This continues to be a relevant topic as extracurricular athletic activities have seen an increase in their popularity and participation in recent years (Howard, 2009). The positive and negative effects that high school athletics have on young adults are a continually heated topic within the population today (Troutman, Dufur, 2007). I believe this is a perfect time to conduct research of my own to help better understand this issue. Anyone currently participating in…
“High school sports are an integral part of the fabric of Americans society with over 5 million youth participating in any school year” (1). Sports are a huge part of our culture. Many high schoolers participate in them. Even though sports are so popular, many people are questioning the safety and productivity of high school sports. They are also questioning if the funding money should be used towards academic classes instead of sports.…
We all need to help people who are playing a high impact sport and people that have played a high impact sport and have been injured because of the impact. The high impact injuries need to be prevented because if they don’t more and more people will suffer from concussions, permanent brain damage, and different thoughts and emotions then they had before the injuries. The amount of injuries caused by high impact sports in much more than others.…
Sports is a very important part of students lives. If the purpose of public education is to prepare the students for life and college, then it must be more than math, reading, and writing. Obesity has become a factor in life for some students and it needs to stop. Public schools offer more sports than private schools. Public school states, “Athletics have been a mainstay of the high school scene for decades.” But, today the sports has expanded for both females and males. Some students get involved with the love of the game, while others love the benefits that the game comes with. Community representation, fitness, teamwork and cooperation, positive mentors, social relationships, leadership skills, time management, and success mindset are some…
The after-school time needed for studying and homework are used up by sports. A very small minority of students may be able to cram in sports and academics. Some sports players, in a desperate attempt to hold on to their grades, sign up for “easy-A” electives, which further curbs their academic work-ethic. Athletes leave for their events in the morning or afternoon, and come home late at night. Most of these athletes forget about their homework. Sports have a negative effect on athletes’ grades, which will only make their life at school even more difficult.…
