The ideal single mother is also able to be financially stable, just as the “typical” American family is able too.
Anybody is capable of accomplishing anything they please do to. A single parent always has the choice to work to be financially stable. Yes, its true that it may be difficult to enough money to support a child, but it’s not impossible be financially stable as a single mother, if you work for it. “Attention should be paid to the serious underlying economic inequalities, without the colorful service distraction of concerned or judgmental prurience” (Roiphe 60). If the single mother of a family is okay financially, they are able to live a comfortable life with no stress, just as the “typical” American family is able too. People always get caught up on the fact that a single mother can’t be educated enough to raise a child, but sometimes that isn't the case. There are many single mothers that are well educated and are able to raise a perfectly happy family, just like the “typical” American family mother. Single mothers are still able to go to school, and a good education, all they need is friends and family to help out with the
child. Lastly, In my opinion, the most important thing to have in a family is love. Everyone is capable of love, including single mothers. Roiphe states that, “ What matters most, it should go without saying, is the kind of parent you are…” (60). I completely agree, that it is to say, it all depends how a mother treats her child. If a mother shows the child that they are loved, that can go along way with having a happy family, much like the “typical” American family. After all, from my observations, most families with two parents that are considered “typical”, don't show their children love. In conclusion, Roiphe is correct in her argument, because my observations have shown that single motherhood can be just as good as the ‘typical” American family. It goes to show that just because single motherhood is looked down upon doesn’t mean that it can’t compare to the “typical” American family. No matter what the circumstances are, they are both still a family in the end if they are financially stable, educated, and loved.
