This quote reveals so much about Anne's character. It shows that Anne was very realistic, yet optimistic at the same time. She knows the reality of life but thinks about the positives of a situation. I think this is the point where it finally hits Anne that this is a war and people do bad things to come out on top. She realizes that people are doing this for their families and country, even though it may hurt other people in the end. Even though these people hurt Anne, she takes it into consideration that the Nazis head home to families who needed this. You can truly see how sweet she is when this line was said. She understands that people do bad things and that we are all human. Another quote of Anne's that shows this is " It's a wonder Miep has a life, considering we always have her run errands." this shows that Anne knows that Miep has a life and can't do everything for the families. Anne is telling them to just let Miep live without bombarding her with their everyday errands. Clearly, she takes other people's feelings into consideration during tough situations.
