My stance on Kaepernick’s actions is I agree with them. I feel like no matter what we have the freedom to make decisions like not standing or standing for the nation anthems, plus Kaepernick reasons were pretty honorable. In paragraph10 Kaleem says “he is not against the military service members who “fight for liberty and justice for everyone””. To me, that just rules out all the people that said he’s disrespecting those in the service. Even though his methods could have been better, his actions brought a lot of people’s attention giving him the chance to explain himself as “taking a stand for those who are oppressed” (Kaleem paragraph 11).
Opposing views claim that by him not standing, disrespects those who are in the service and his country. One cannot deny that some may see it as disrespectful because those in the service fought for his freedom and country. Nevertheless, why should he stand and feel prideful “for a country that oppresses black people and people of color” (Kaleem paragraph 6)? instead of worrying about someone not being prideful why not try and fix the problems running amuck in it.
