In The Night Circus: Illusions
“In a world where everything is an illusion, how can one know what is real?” In the Night circus, it is quite hard to discern this.
Within the text, in the simplest of terms, an illusion is manipulating an environment or someone’s vision/view. Finding the reality of this novel lies with the characters and their relationships, emotions and their reactions to their experiences and how these things can be altered by a person's perspective and their knowledge.

The game is an illusion because of how it was created. Marco was picked to complement and contrast Celia, this is a manipulation of their environment, making their situation an illusion. The circus is the venue for the game, a way for Celia and Marco to show their skills and varied techniques in their respective illusions.

Physical illusions are made by warping the appearance of an object (In her audition for the circus Celia manipulates Marco’s notebook into a bird) while mental illusions are warping people’s view of their surroundings and their perspective (Marco does this when he shows Celia the future plan of one of the rooms in Chandresh’s house and when he manipulates the city to appear like a forest for Isobel).

The realities of the Night Circus are the constants, that Celia and Marco are opponents and that they love each other. Even though their emotions are a product of circumstance it doesn’t negate the reality of their feelings for one another. There is genuine emotion in their reactions and how they feel.

They have been manipulated to play the game, by their respective fatherly roles, but their feelings naturally developed from a sense of competitivity to

Growing up I know I have had my fair share of arguments with my brothers, whether it be about who gets to watch their show or who gets to be player 1, regardless of the situation I knew that we would grow out of our rivalries and mature. Similarly in both books they were able to get pass their rivalries and find peace in the end although it took some time. Then in both books we see siblings feuding with each other, what they’re arguing over may be different, but with each new argument that arises we see each sibling crawling for the edge over the other. Although the context is different in each piece of literature we can see that the sibling’s argument is sparked by a parent’s preference for one child over the other and the actual reason for their disagreement is miniscule in actual meaning.…

There are many examples of trickery that come from the text in Twelfth Night. One example of trickery in Twelfth Night was shown by Voila when she disguises herself to be her twin brother Sebastian, who supposedly thought to have died in a shipwreck early in the play. Viola disguises herself as her brother because she wants to take a job at Duke Orsino’s Court. This is an example of trickery because she disguises herself to trick others into thinking that she is a man. Another example of trickery in Twelfth Night is in Act 2 Scene 5 In Olivia’s garden, when Maria, Sir toby, Sir Andrew, and Fabian, one of Maria’s servants plan to play a joke on Malvolio. Maria has written a fake letter to trick Malvolio into thinking that Olivia is in love with him. Maria leaves the letter in the garden and the three men and Maria hide. When Malvolio enters the garden he spots the letter and reads it. Maria had sealed the letter with Olivia’s sealing ring to make it look more authentic. Malvolio mistakes Maria’s handwriting for Olivia’s and believes the letter is real. Mavolio then goes to Olivia and does all the things the letter says that she likes, but the letter states things that Olivia thinks are weird. Olivia thinks that Malvolio is insane and orders him to be locked…

According to Webster’s Dictionary, trickery is the use of tricks and stratagem to deceive. It is used mainly for personal gain in which the “trick-er” acquires something of desire from the “trick-ie”. This use of misleading information is common in money schemes and magic shows alike, but it can also be found in the hearts of conniving servants and even that of a desperate princess. Because many characters in Berta of Hungary use treachery and deception to satisfy their desires, Berta’s tale is one of trickery.…

It successfully convinced the audience of the seriousness of mental instability and the discrimination towards those with mental illness through a variety of ways. First, the performing area in itself was able to encapsulate this. It comprised of an open floor with chairs going around in a circle, forming an enclosed space (The 20th of November). Mimicking a therapy session, the performer was able to present himself to people that have come together to hear one another, in a manner as if the therapy session was on the topic of mental illness (The 20th of November). For instance, the directors’ choice of changing the voice showed the different voices running through the mind of the killer (The 20th of November). In several instances, Sebastian acted out as either a younger version of himself, his previous teachers, or the devil (The 20th of November). When the devil was triggered, Sebastian displayed an alter ego as his mood drastically changed to a more angered, demonic, version of himself (The 20th of November). This shows that he is clearly battling demons considering at the start of the play we observe the character and note he is very calm and such drastic alterations of mood can display signs of a mental disorder (The 20th of November). Therefore, formulating the area into looking like a therapy session showed the willingness of Sebastian to seek help and possessed the desire to be…

The Students are also terrify by being out of there element being in a rich person's toy store, F.A.O Schwartz. Just as the prisoner would be frightened by the light of the Sun and would not want to go out of his comfort zone, of the cave. The shadows in “The Allegory Of the Cave” are also very significant when comparing the two stories together because in “the lesson” the students are only seeing there shadows of reality while being in there little ghetto of New York City. The students are quick to judge what they see from being outside of the Toy store, such as the “one lady in a fur coat” who by seeing this one person saying “white folks crazy” just as the prisoner would think whatever they saw outside of the cave would look a little crazy to them. Just as if the prisoners were to “look towards the light, he would suffer sharp pains; the glare will distress him, and will be unable to see the realities of which in his former state he had seen the shadows; and then conceive someone saying to him, that what he saw before was an “Illusion” which the students, who were satisfied staying in…
