One of the lessons in identity was being able to write our own bio-poem, writing this poem came with a lot of thinking about what groups I belong to. We walked around the room to the desk and looked at a few pictures of people dressed up in different outfits and we made assumptions about what they could be labeled as. As the project was ending the entire class shunned the fact the all the people in the pictures turned out to be just 2 of the same men. One of the pictures the young man was wearing a very nice suit. He looked like he could have worked in the Supreme Court. Another picture of the same man looked like he lived in the ghetto.
2. My favorite lesson so far being in this class has been “The Sneetches”, In the Sneetches, we learned that if you did not have a star you were not part of the community.
They did this because if you had a star then you were considered to be on top and the best. The star-bellied Sneetches stereotyped the Sneetches without the stars saying that they were not good enough. I saw that the star-bellied Sneetches were impudent towards the non star-belly Sneetches, they were not allowed to join them in any type of activities. The Sneetches without the stars wanted justice so they created a machine that would put a star on their stomach to make them look like a star-bellied sneetch. Once everyone had a star they started to realize that they were all one community and they should not have judged them at the …show more content…
I also learned that everyone should be treated equally and that you should not treat someone poorly because of the way they look. Another one of my favorite lessons was the “ A Class Divided”, The teacher taught the 3rd graders that they were not allowed to play during recess with the children with the collars. The children with the collars had to sit out and watch the other kids play. Every day the teacher would go back and forth making the groups either the better or worst group, soon the kids started to be rude towards each other. By the end of the week all the kids reunited and learned that they should not judge and they should be respectful to everyone no matter what their race
