Charlie Jones, a fireman for Boulder County, Colorado, saw an ad for the vacation of his dreams in the local, “Boulder County Gazette.” The ad read, “Seven days at the wonderful luxury Windell resort, ‘Cabo Mar,’ $1200 per person, all inclusive.” The ad featured a picture of the front of the hotel with a person receiving a massage by the pool superimposed over the hotel façade. The ad went on to say how the hotel was located on the beach at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and in a wonderful tropical setting. The ad also listed the name of a local travel agency, Jennifer’s Tours, for booking purposes. In miniscule print at the bottom of the ad, blending with the pattern of the iron railing, the ad went on to make a short disclaimer to the effect that the amenities featured were not necessarily those provided. Jones knew Jennifer Hooley, the owner of the agency. Anxious for some time off in a warm climate, Jones decided to Google the hotel name to verify that it was indeed a Windell hotel as he knew Windell to be a reputable company. From Google, Jones was able to confirm that the, ‘Cabo Mar,’ was owned by Windell; he also noticed that the same picture appeared on this website as he had first seen in the newspaper. The site also showed pictures of what seemed to be spacious, well-appointed rooms with queen sized beds. Excited by what he saw, Jones called Jennifer’s Tours and booked the special he saw in the newspaper ad.…

After about a month or so guests and residents of the hotel began to complain about “funny” tasting and even “discolored” water. When an employee went up the the Hotel’s 4 1,000 gallon water tanks, he opened one on of the hatches to discover the body of Elisa Lam.The L.A. County Department of Coroner ruled the death “accidental due to drowning” and said no traces of drugs or alcohol were found during the autopsy. However, there is much more to the story than what is implied by police reports. The first piece of evidence that needs to be considered is an elevator surveillance tape that recorded Elisa’s behavior only a few moments before she lost her life. Elisa Lam’s death, still a mystery to the world, has led to multiple theories on how she disappeared and was then found in a water tank above the hotel in which she stayed at. Whether Elisa Lam was followed and murdered, under a heavy influence of drugs, or had a psychotic break due to her diagnosis of bipolar disorder, no one truly knows the secret behind Elisa…

    Police Brutality Report

The purpose of this paper is to examine the rationale behind police brutality in correlation to social perception of immunity for law enforcement. There have been multiple reports where civilians have stated that they did not get involved in a crime in progress or an incident of police brutality because they feel that the officer will not be punished. This presumption leads to not only a lack of accountability on the part of the officers, as they fear no reprimand, but also on behalf of the bystanders who subsequently facilitate a means for these behaviors to continue. Instead, these bystanders pull out their camera in hopes of attaining 15 minutes of fame. While fear may take precedent over all other reasons for not getting involved, for these…

I am the Chief Executive Sheriff of a mid sized town police station. I have recently received vital output statistics which show that the station is performing poorly in terms of service quality (not enough routine patrol, delay in answers to calls and complaints) and productivity (low turnover in investigation of crimes, searches for evidence, questions of suspects and witnesses). Below are the main points of my presentation to the stations’ “board of directors”.…

Before being able to enter into a discussion concerning police misconduct, one must be able to understand what constitute police misconduct. The subject may appear to be a relative simple element to define, however, there is no real definition for police misconduct. Law enforcement, judicial system and the community have often been found to have various definitions for police misconduct. The term police misconduct, at the very least, has been described as an officer committing improper and/or illegal actions and/or conduct (Wolfe & Piquero, 2011). The main issue that has been central in police misconduct cases is the utilization of excessive force. This is not the only form of police misconduct that is faced by the criminal justice field.
