This paper is about the third world country of the Republic of India I will cover 8 major points in this paper as follows. * Geography and History - describe the geographic location of the country and history * Rural/Urban * Economic development * Social * Political – describe the current type of government * Religion * Status of women * Current development activity in the country Then finally I will give a summary of the above findings and current status of the country.
Geography and History
Republic of India in English and Bharat in Hindi constitute the largest part of the sub continental land mass of South Asia. They are bonded by Pakistan on the Northwest; to the North by China, Nepal, and Bhutan; and to the East by Bangladesh and Birmaine finally The Indian Ocean and Sri Lanka on the South. The land forms range from plains, tropical forest and desert to the highest mountain range in the world. The area consists of 1,222,237 square miles.
India was a land of fragmented geo-political entity, ruled by countless petty kings and local chieftains of wealth. Who actually colonized India well a Portuguese sailor by the name of Vasco da Gama, was the first European to land in India (1498). It marked the beginning of the colonization of India by the Europeans. There is more about the Portuguese in India fighting other counties from coming in. but to sum it up in short. When King Charles II of England married Princess Katherine of Braganza of Portugal, Bombay was given as part of the dowry in 1661 and in 1858 all of India was under British rule.
India attained Independence on August 15th 1947, after a great political and social struggle. The spirit of nationalism in India gained ground in the middle of the 19th century. It was strengthened by the formation of the Indian National Congress in 1885. The
