Abstract
The success of an organization relies heavily on the performance of its employees. Understanding Individual employee performance is a systematic approach to assigning work and expectations, supporting and enabling employee efforts, providing assessment and feedback, and following through with appropriate recognition or correction. Hibba (2007). There are a number of factors that contribute to employee performance. The design and implementation of an effective performance measurement system is important for improving employee performance, as well as overall organizational performance. The purpose of this paper is to identify the components of an effective performance management system, how the use of an effective performance management system will support the goals, mission, and objectives of the organization, factors that affect employee performance, and how to manage and improve employee performance.
Understanding Individual Employee Performance:
Motivation, Ability, and Beyond Effective performance management systems are not merely used for once or twice yearly individual expectation setting and rating processes, but are tools to help the organization manage on a day-to-day basis. (“GOA Reports,”2003). According to the book Human Resource Management by Mathis and Jackson (2011) performance management is a series of activities designed to ensure that the organization gets the performance it needs from its employees.
