actions are intrinsically right or wrong and do not focus as much on the consequences of said action1. Due to different ethical perspectives, people may expect different things from businesses.
2. Describe how these two companies – Anglo-American and Massey Energy – apply ethics in practice
Angle-American focuses more about their employees and their environment than Massey Energy.
Anglo-American spends time and money to help the communities of Brazil and South Africa by improving the delivery of municipal services to their citizens. Anglo-American has dedicated their efforts to securing water in places with water scarcity. Anglo-American’s first priority is the safety of their employees. In 2012, Anglo-American hosted its first Global Safety Day which was used to inform every employee about their contribution to safety which creates a workplace that strives to deliver zero harm.2 Massey Energy did not create a safe environment for its employees. Miners from Massey Energy said the owner built a work environment where “which wrongdoing became acceptable”. 3 Due to an unsafe environment, 29 miners on April 5, 2010, became the worst American mining disaster in 40 years. One miner, Gary Wayne Quarles stated, “I’m just scared to death to go to work because I’m just scared to death something bad is going to happen”. 3 It is very clear that the two businesses have different …show more content…

3.
Discuss the costs and benefits to an organization when that organization does or does not behave ethically.
When organizations behave ethically they get more publicity. When organizations are known for being ethical, people are more likely to trust them with their business. Also when organizations hold community events, their presence becomes more known within the community. When organizations treat their employees correctly, they will have more loyalty. When organizations get bad publicity, it is hard to regain the trust of the
community.
