Individuality Vs. Conformity In The Leopard Man
Have you ever felt the need to fit into a group? Or have you ever had to conform yourself into society’s behaviors or etc. Conformity can either be a good quality to have or a bad quality. For that being said let’s get into depth of Conformity vs Nonconformity. Conformity is where those amongst us are accepted by everyone, and seem to easily blend in/ fit in with the crowd. This isn't necessarily a good thing due to the lack of individuality which usually represents who we are as a person. Impersonating other people for a living isn't expressing yourself or your individuality. This can cause low self esteem and can do more harm than good. As in “The Leopard Man”, his life of being a nonconformist seemed to affect those who dedicate their lives …show more content…
It’s one thing to want to feel accepted, or to feel wanted but to lose yourself completely isn’t okay. If anything you should surround yourself with people who are willing to love you and accept you for who you are, instead of the person you’re pretending to be. It’s also known that the people you hang out with are the people you become due to the impact of influence they have on you. If you decide one day to start hanging out with kids that are the complete opposite of you, in the meantime you’re gonna become just like them. You might not even have anything in common with them, but the fact that they accept the fake you, instead of the real you makes you feel some type of satisfaction. Also, the fact that they are great in everyone else's eyes makes you feel like you're above everyone else. That doesn’t necessarily mean you feel complete. You might feel a part of you missing, and that’s because a piece of you is missing. That’s your individuality. You’re going to begin questioning yourself whether you're voice matters, or your mind is worth sharing. Eventually while time goes on, this is all you're ever going to think about. During these times, you’re gonna slowly pick yourself apart and feel alone. You’re gonna become your biggest critique without even realizing it. This is why being a conformist isn’t the best

This fulfils the need to feel accepted and not outcast which can increase the individuals self esteem. Conformity can be demonstrated by a change in the individual’s clothes, language or attitude etc. to adapt to the group; thus displaying the desire to be a group member. People often act like someone they aren't for the chance of making someone else happy. I believe that people make the wrong decisions once and a while but that just makes them learn from their mistakes. We all learn to be ourselves because if we aren't then some people will only like us for who we are pretending to be. To be your own person and not care what other people think is very important. In the end someone will just be disappointed for putting on a act that they couldn't pull…

It is often said that conformity can be a horrible thing in today's society, but I have always believed that conformity was and can be a dangerous thing in life. In the article “Sociology of Leopard Man” the author Logan Feys states that, “Conformity can be seen as the world's most common but dangerous psychological disorder” (par. 6). In other words, he believes that being in a group surrounded by uniqueness is “unsafe” because we will not be able to think by ourselves and we as humans will follow the group and be a follower in life. Honestly it is a good thing we have uniqueness because we would all be doing the exact same thing and we need different people that can show us it is okay, without them we would all be thinking the same.…

Everyone was born to be themselves, they have their own feelings, looks, and beliefs. Therefore, an individual should not change themselves for anyone. To be part of a group, the group should accept them for who they are. The characters in the stories and movies "The Sociology of Leopard Man," "Two Kinds," and Dead Poets Society agreed that they would not change themselves in order to blend in with other people. Someone once mentioned "If you cannot change the world, then change your world." Sometimes, to communicate with others or groups, it is a good idea for individuals to change themselves a little bit to fit with everyone else when necessary.…

In our daily life, we have to put up with rules, judgemental people and drama. Most of us stay within those imaginary lines to be okay. We accept the things that people tell us and change in order to fit into society. Although you can not see it, it is common for us to try to fit in. We do it in order to not get bullied or judged. Being a person who follows the idea of conformity can be led to the idea of you being a, “goodie two shoes”. Unlike a non-conformist, they can be more of an out-going person. We’ve all seen or heard people telling you how to look, feel, or act. People telling you to change,so you can fit in or look better. We all have been pressured to be something we’re not. Society thinks that conformity is huge part of life, that it keeps everything together. Conformity is important, but what’s more important is being unique, being yourself not someone you’re not. In conclusion, one’s actions are influenced by their values, but when conforming, their values and ability to empathize are lost, as this is shown in the short stories “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury and “The Man in the Well” by Ira Sher. Although conformity can be beneficial and hold groups together, it can cause others to forget their beliefs and who they really are. Since one’s actions reflect their values, their actions are unfiltered if they ignore or forget their values. If someone loses sight of their values when in a group, they are slowly losing their individuality. This is why conformity leads to many harmful situations.…

Some people are pressured to lose their identity to society’s demands everyday and this is called forcing one to become a conformist. They are coerced to act, look, and be a certain way to please the public eye. An example that can be seen easily these days are kids who wear the same style clothing as their friends, and behave a certain way to fit in with other kids even if they are not being true to themselves. This is because no one likes the feeling of being an outcast and lonely, so most tried their best to convince others to like their counterfeit personality.
