The soul of vision Industry 4.0 ‘ internet of things ‘ means the universal connection of things, people and machines. The intent of this connection is to produce variety of new products and services in a more efficient manner and on a large scale. This idea was first conceptualised by the German government. The basic idea behind this is to create smart factories in which the products, transport modes and the machines communicate with each other to create a virtual market place in a company and accordingly decide which production element can be best suitable for the next production step. This will help create a seamless connection between the smart factories and the real world. This is achieved by embracing the world of …show more content…
Here all the IT, mechanical and electronic components are linked and they communicate with each other using radio frequency technology (RFID). These smart machines share various data such as stocks, inventories, production capacity, problems and faults along with the change in demands. This helps to coordinate between the processes and the deadlines which leads to higher efficiency, lower throughput times and optimised use of capacity and higher quality in production, purchasing, development and marketing.
CPPS not only integrate various machines with each other but also help in creating a smart value chain and help extemporize the whole product life cycle. Sensors are used to connect the machines to various networks, fleets and human beings. Figure 2 - The Industrie 4.0 atmosphere
The most important part of industry 4.0 is the interface between various smart infrastructures e.g. smart mobility, smart grid smart logistics etc.
Main characteristics of Industry 4.0
“The biggest challenge of the digital transformation is going to be guaranteeing that different systems communicate with each other” (Marcel Wenzin, Head of Supply Chain Management, Agta record AG). This revolution involves the integration of different aspects of manufacturing chaining to create a harmony and efficiency of the …show more content…
Industry 4.0 depends on automation and inter-relation between many aspects of industrial processes. This includes using robots hand-in-hand with production processes like quality, inventory and warehousing on a global level. An example of this characteristics is using 3D printing for flexible and new production solutions. Another example is developing new supply chains for the industry which works in co-ordination of other important
