Kira is just one of the many people that are not treated fairly due to their physicalities. On page 18 it’s clearly stated that Vandara and the women do not want her there because of her twisted leg. They say “We don’t want you here. You don’t belong in the village anymore. You’re worthless, with that leg.” It’s not true that she is worthless with her leg being the way it is. Not just Kira is being treated unfairly because of her injury. A woman named Camilla was sent to the field to die because she broke her arm. In our life, we just go to the doctor to get our arm taken care of. In their alternative universe, they are sent to die because of something like that. People were dying and frightened as a result of things not being fair. People were forced to do things they didn’t want to and they lived lifestyles that were not healthy. Their rights were taken away while others were given more rights. People were graded for their values and the most valuable lived in the Edifice building with luxury while others lived in the Fen with filthy surroundings. Here are the values that I stand for: honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values.
