Inexperienced Nurses: Article Analysis

In an article written by Zimmerman (2016), simulation education has been found to reduce medication errors in inexperienced nurses. New nurses (licensed less than 1 year) with inadequate knowledge and inexperience have been found to be a major cause for medication errors. Reports suggest that only 41% of new nurses are proficient in medication administration and 28% of those nurses knew the use of the drug. In the article, nursing students and new nurses expressed the want and need to be taught correct medication administration. This led to the recommendation of high-fidelity simulation to correct the nursing education gap and to maintain nursing competencies. High-fidelity simulations have proved to replicate evidenced base practice scenarios.
