The mandate to change the prevailing culture from opinion-based practice to evidence-based practice has influenced models designed as decision –making approaches to advance the integration of simulation education methods in higher education health professional programs, specifically among undergraduate and graduate education nursing programs. Simulation is one of the most rapidly growing strategies in clinical education and defining the best practices for dissemination is essential to the integration process. The intent of this workshop is to facilitate the opportunity to explore an approach to seek evidence-based outcomes in the process of simulation integration in clinical nursing professional education. Doing things many times without proof or data indicating efficacy is probably a waste of time, talent and money. The efforts in education and technology for simulation integration require each of us to give serious attention to capability-building and center development strategies.…

This article, “Relationship between call light use and response time and inpatient falls in acute care settings”, focused on three main points of interest. The first was the use of call lights from inpatients and their families. The second was the nurses’ response time to the call light. Finally, the third was the amount of inpatient falls that occurred. The goal of the study was to determine whether the call light use rate and the average call light response time contributed to the fall and injurious fall rates in acute care settings. The study was conducted in a Michigan community hospital and used archived hospital data for analyses for the period from February 2007 to June 2008. The unit of analysis was unit-week. The results of the study were as follows: more calls for assistance were related to less fall-related harm, longer response time to call lights related to fewer total falls and less fall-related patient harm, and more call light use related to longer response times (3333). So, in conclusion, this study challenged the idea that call lights should be used less or responded to faster.…
A nurse anesthetist is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN). To become a CRNA one must specialize in anesthetics after becoming a registered nurse (RN). When becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist, one must currently hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, also known as a BSN. This academic path is normally a four year route. Two of the four years are regular academics with a few classes specifically for one’s major, and the last two are spent learning various techniques in clinicals . Once he or she has successfully graduated with his or her BSN and passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), he or she is now qualified to work in the field (“Certified Registered”). For one to be eligible for acceptance into the nurse anesthesia program one must first have at least one year of critical or trauma care experience.…
Advanced practice nurse’s are reimbursed at a lower rate for the same services than physicians by Medicare, Medicaid and other private insurance companies. American medical association sets our scope of practice and regulations and legislation is often influenced by these recommendations. Advanced practice nurses should be consider as equal members of the healthcare provider community and receive equal reimbursement. To make these changes one must develop a plan and advocate for the profession.…

Human error in nursing is usually unavoidable, unpredictable and unintentional. Further, some risks include language barriers, neglecting to follow the policy, in a hurry to complete the task. As a supervisor, I encountered a nurse who gave a patient the wrong medications. The error occurred when the patient answered to the wrong name, and the nurse failed to check the patient’s identification bracelet. Other errors can include carelessness on the behalf of the staff as well as not taking the time to listen to the patient (Raso & Gulinello, 2010). Therefore, the aims of the risk management are to reduce as well as prevent any risk to patients and the health facility. Risk factors may result in financial loss, preventable…

Life for me has been very interesting. I started off in the nursing field as a nursing assistant and patient care tech at 19 working my way through school both full-time and part-time until I finally graduated from Virginia State University with my Associate’s of Science Degree in Nursing. After accomplishing that goal I have reached somewhat of a plateau in my life I have so many short and long-term goals I want to accomplish both professionally and personally. Some of professional goals are, becoming a supervisor at my current job, obtaining my Advance Life Support Certification, obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, enlisting into the Navy Nurse Corps, becoming a Nurse Practitioner, and eventually one day becoming an Administrator of an Acute Care Facility. As well as having professional goals in life you should have personal goals. My short and long term-personal goals are; relocating to Chicago, Illinois, getting married, and having children. The typical American Dream. These goals are not far from my reach with self motivation and perseverance all of these goals can be accomplished.…
