1. Specifically, how does the concept influence or change people’s lives? All genres of music are used in someway to tell a story about things happening to an individual, a community, a nation or in the world. Rap music is one genre in the music industry that allows a platform for people to express there individual needs, desires, wants, or what is happening in their lives. It also instills a sense of hope that “I” am not alone, this is also happening to “others” and I can overcome my current situation stronger and a little bit wiser while at the same time used to unify a community regardless of age, race, …show more content…
I believe contrary to that, rap music is like crocheting because regardless of what you want to crochet it starts with a simple foundation and increases with complexity. You first need to begin by making choices of want you want to crochet and how you want it to feel and look. In rap music, it needs to begin with a message that makes a connection to the audience. In crocheting, choosing a yarn from a variety of colors, textures, widths, and lengths will provide the feel and look of what you want to crochet either a scarf or an afghan. It is a multifaceted living art which reveals the unpleasantly hardships of day-to-day life in the ghetto while at the same time bestowing aspiration, addressing perseverance of the individual and/or the community. It is about self-empowerment to create change. They felt their socioeconomic status did not allow them to voice their fears or ideas to bring about change so they used what they felt would help soothe their discomfort, music. The music has evolved since it began. The evolution of rap music is like a double edge-sword, one edge is the self-empowerment and, other side is self-ruining. One side of the sword is like a self-help book. It addresses a social or political issue up front by unifying an individual: ideas, fear, hope. It also provides a sense of inspiration, hope, courage for those creating and/or listening to the lyrics to take a stand for change. They have a voice to bring about change where they otherwise would feel alone and deflated. It builds a community of “us” not
