Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about sleep disorders.
Central Idea: Today I want to inform you on sleep disorders. First I will talk about insomnia. Second I will talk about sleep apnea, and finally I will talk about narcolepsy.
Introduction
Attention Getter: Do you know that awesome feeling when you get into bed, fall right to sleep, stay asleep all night, and wake up feeling refreshed? Well, me neither.
I. According to The Institute of Medicine of The National Academies (137). “Almost 20 percent of all serious car crash injuries in the general population are associated with driver sleepiness”.
II. Hello, my name is ____ and today, I am going to talk to you about sleep disorders, some of their symptoms, and what causes them .
III. Everyone loves sleep who doesn’t; and some also love staying up all night. You can benefit from the information because you may have a sleep disorder, and not know.
IV. My dad was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I was little, so I got to learn about it from him. Also, in high school I was really interested in my psychology class and learning about sleep disorders. One of my friends in my psychology class actually has narcolepsy. When she'd fall asleep during class and get caught, she'd pretend she was praying and would say "amen". Although I don’t think i’m qualified as an expert, I did a lot of reading on sleep disorders and found a lot of cool facts and information.
V. In the next few minutes, I will be talking to you about three main points: A. First I will talk about insomnia. B. Second, I will talk about sleep apnea. C. Finally, I will talk about narcolepsy.
