Point: A 12 year-year-old girl, named Helaina Hovitz was filled with terror as she witnessed a traumatic event that people across America remember as, 9/11. A Muslim boy, RJ Khalaf got discriminated and hated upon after 9/11 had taken place, and it changed this life in many ways RJ didn’t image.
Evidence: When RJ Khalaf was in highschool he ran for student body president, people said he wouldn’t get elected because who he was, or what he believed in. When he was running for president one of RJ’s fellow classmates publicly shared online a hurtful comment, tweeting “If you vote for RJ, you obviously enjoyed 9/11.” Explain: People all over America were scared of Muslims after 9/11. Which resulted to those people pointing out everyone who looked, seemed, or acted like a Muslim. Rj for instance, knew that the terrorist didn’t share the same beliefs, and were not like him. But he also knew that a lot of people weren’t going to understand that. Link: RJ may have received racist comments, but he achieved his goal and became the first Muslim student body president at his high school. He also created a Muslim student association at his school to cover any hateful categorized things about
Muslims.
Point: New York might have fallen at one time, however it still stands tall and mighty from what tragedy happened 15 years ago. Evidence: The city of New York is on its own road to recovery. A new skyscraper called the “Freedom Tower” was built after the Twin Towers fell, 4,000 men and woman go to work at the “Freedom Tower” everyday. Two streams of light are beamed from the World Trade Center on the anniversary of September 11, 2001. Explain: “The Freedom Tower” is only a few feet away from where the “Twin Towers” once stood. Manhattan still comes to life everyday, as people go about their day to work and school! Childrens laughter fills the streets of Manhattan, which shows that New York is still thriving with life!
