If any alien intelligent life acquired this artifact, they will acknowledge some important information about Earth including human race and our location in the galaxy. Then what is next? In my opinion, a kind of find this big on such a desolate rock would seem absurdly rare. It's been only a few hours on this planet, and I already know it's going to be the death of me.…

Even within the initial sequence we are well introduced to the various cinematic devices used. The Atmosphere is very eerie and isolation plays key. The sets are very dark and the camera shots create confined corners with very close images of the characters as they communicate and travel through the ship itself.…

    Avatar Technology Analysis

With the movie Avatar, Pandora is presented as a virgin land of unspoiled beauty, a paradise with a vast landscape full of wildlife, huge trees, plants that react and move like animals, astonishing rainforests, wonderful waterfalls, lakes, rivers, massive cliffs hovering above the ground, impressive mountains and magnificent animals. It is nature as something divine and marvelous. Contrary to Pandora's magnificent natural landscape, the base's environment is purely a military construct in which everything is gray and dark and only artificial light exists. The image of this lifeless place in which the only things are enormous excavators, trucks, steel and chain-link fences, huge tractors, gigantic, heavily- armored, human-operated…

    Space Odyssey Analysis

The film is largely silent, with periodic groupings of dialogue throughout. The dialogue is therefore inherently more noteworthy. Classical music fills some of the empty background, yet the bulk of the film is taken in through the eyes. The scenery and backdrops are incredibly grandiose, highlighting man’s small place in the universe. The overall theme of the movie appears to be man’s exploration and ascent to something higher. The early hominids in Part 1 are greeted with a triumphant chorus upon discovering and utilizing tools to enhance their survival. Part 2 of the film showcases the comfort of space travel – comfortable space planes, space stations, and moon bases. Only the monoliths appear out of place and are always welcomed with dramatic turns of music. Part 3 continues to highlight the importance of technology and the comfort it brings. Discovery One is a practical, yet spacious ship that offers everything Dave and Frank might need. HAL is an impressive on-board computer that can run all of the ship’s systems and communicate problems with the crew. Part 4 and Dave’s transportation through the tunnel of colors and light leaves the viewer utterly lost. Much like Dave, the movie watcher is being taken into the unknown. As Dave experience a rebirth, the viewer does as…

    Siren Song Essay

Margaret Atwood’s “Siren Song” is written with a crafty yet concise one-sided dialogue with a tone of an almost dark and malicious sense of humor. It is a clever work containing one of the three alluring Sirens, alluding to Homer’s The Odyssey, successfully captivating a mariner’s attention to “save” her. The poet starts the slow and soft with an appealing cry and by using the device of enjambment, is able to speed up and introduce a more urgent tone of deception, “I will tell this secret to you/to you, only you/Come closer”[1]. Atwood is able to make it appear that the Siren is discontent and in need of rescue, only to fool the mariner along with the reader.…

One of my favorite radio medians is Pandora Internet Radio. I enjoy Pandora for the simple fact of variety there over a 700,000 songs in the database. (PANDORA) There are many great radio stations out there. However, after awhile they continue to cycle through the same songs over and over. With Pandora the listeners can suggest specific artists, or genres of music, or a comedian and Pandora not only plays that artist, but artist that are similar to them through that station.…

On February 19, 2015, Jared Blum at the Sacramento State University had his first concert of the spring semester featuring plenty of special guests. This concert was presented as partial fulfillment of the requirements that he needs for his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies. Jared Blum, with his special guests (Megan Spurlock on the clarinet, Morgan Childres on the trombone, the Jazz Combo, the Jazz Essemble, and other special guests), collectively performed nine pieces along with a medley that compromised of three songs at the concert. Prior to taking this course, one of the first questions that I asked myself was “what do I know about jazz?” I have always consociated jazz music with the African American culture, mainly because of the general idea of how jazz music can give off a “bluesy” rhythm. Little did I know how diverse jazz music can be. “Creole Belles”, “Creep”, and the medley that compromised of “When you’re smiling”, “Swing that music”, and “Shiek of Araby” are the pieces that allowed the audience, including myself, to experience the diversity of jazz music.…

    Comparing Pandora and Eve

    • 796 Words

Pandora was the first human woman created in Greek mythology. She was created to punish mankind for the gift of fire, given by Prometheus. Representing divinity, fire was an asset intended for the gods/goddesses. Once human men acquired this gift, the separation between the gods/goddesses and mortals was diminished. Zeus was outraged by this blurring of divine lines, and upon his order, Pandora was fashioned of “water and earthy” by Hephaestus. Athene, Hermes, and the other gods/goddesses of Mount Olympus each played a role in her formation, infusing her some of their celestial essence. Appropriately named, Pandora means “all-gifts” or “the source of all gifts”. Pandora, in her apparent perfection, was presented to Epimetheus (brother of Prometheus) as a gift, and the two wed. Pandora had with her a jar (or a box) from Zeus. According to Hesiod’s Works of Days, Pandora’s jar was filled with terrors such as misery, sorrow, evil, and disease. Pandora opens the jar, unleashes these infestations onto mankind, then slams the jar closed. The only item left in the jar was hope. Hesiod argued that even hope was a curse, implying that was merely a “false hope” that prevented mankind from accepting their impending doom.…

The probe is named after the Rosetta Stone, a basalt slab of Egyptian origin featuring a decree in three scripts. The lander is named after the Nile island Philae, where an obelisk was discovered with inscriptions. A comparison of the hieroglyphs on the Rosetta Stone and the obelisk led to greater understanding of the Egyptian writing system. Similarly, it is hoped that these spacecraft will result in better understanding of comets and the early Solar System.…

Throughout history, human beings have looked to the stars for answers. Who are we, why are we here, and who created us? As time went on, we have found primary and secondary artifacts to teach us of past civilization. At the present time, archeologists have wondered how the pyramids were made without the advances in technology that we have today, and looked to the possibly of an advance civilization. They have found hieroglyphs that show pictures of air crafts that weren’t around at that time. Although, it is still a theory, is it as far off as they might think? I am here to further my research in unidentified flying objects and extra-terrestrials. In addition, I will educate the reader of the possibility of UFO’s and extra-terrestrials through ancient artifacts, advances that Hitler may have had, the Roswell crash, Dr. Steven Greer, as well as the disclosure project and what it is all about.…

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou is an autobiography detailing evens in her life from when she was just five years old to when she has her first child at the age of 16. As I read the novel, I felt as though Angelou wrote it so that she could shine a light on the racism in America. Even though Maya Angelou is “black” and I am “yellow,” I was able to relate to her story on a very personal level. Although I have never been sexually molested as she had been at the age of 8, nor have I ever been pregnant at the age of 16, her coming of age story and the contrast between her closest friend and herself drew me and I was able to relate.…

The name Pandora in Greek means “the one who bears all gifts.” Pandora was the first woman on Earth and created by the gods. She was created out of revenge from Zeus to the people because Prometheus stole fire and gave it to them. Zeus had told Pandora that in the box contained all sorts of gifts from the gods but that she was never allowed to open it, ever. He then took her to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus, to be his wife. Pandora could not hold her curiosity and thus opened the box and BAM! Out flew diseases, illnesses, and hardships. Pandora was terrified so she closed the box as fast as she could, without realizing that she had trapped Hope inside.…
