Informative Essay On Why Odysseus Is A Hero
What is a hero to you? Is Odysseus a hero to you? I’m going to explain what one is to me, and if I think Odysseus is one. It’s your opinion, do you or don’t you? Odysseus to me is a hero, but then at sometimes he isn’t. He’s a hero because he is always saving people and putting himself into danger, and making sure his men, friends, or family don’t get hurt, just like when he went to the island that threw fire, he could have easily died, all of his men wanted to come with him, but he wouldn't allow it. He didn’t want any of them getting hurt. He risked his own life because he wanted to go home and see his family again. Knowing that he might not come back alive, knowing his wife could have been moved one. But, he didn’t give up …show more content…
Odysseus is the one who always went through the struggles of getting his men home, when someone did something they shouldn’t have Odysseus had to pay for it also but he didn’t give up, not even on a few of his men when they did him wrong. An example of what I am trying to say is they were almost back to Ithaca and Odysseus took a nap, well before he went to sleep he told everyone NOT to open the bag, well once he was asleep that’s exactly what they did they opened it and they flew all the way back to the other side. Now that you know my opinion and you know what a hero to me is, what is one to you? And do you think Odysseus is one? Don’t forget a hero is someone that’s always gonna help you, someone that is a leader. Hero, someone who does whatever it takes to make it to the top, someone who does anything and everything in their power to make sure they have what you need. Strong, independent, achievements, courage, risks, love, and plenty more. Odysseus was all of that, yeah he got mad at times, but never did he give up. He wanted his family back, he wanted to go home. So that’s what he did it just all took

In “The Odyssey”, Odysseus is a hero because of how he got all the suitors out of the house. I believe that he is a hero for that because of the way that they just moved in and tried to marry his wife. Also that they were eating all of his animals fruit and other things also that they were drinking all of his wine. They were also mean to his servants and to son which made him mad at them. Then when he came they did not know and they were treating him like that he was nothing and that he should die. So that is the reason why he had to kill all of the suitors.…

A hero is somwone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself- Joesph Campbell. Odysseus is an an optimal hero in both the physical and metal sense. In the physical sense he is a tremendus hero, because he was challenged to all these extreme dangourous adventures; he umexpectly walks out alive after questioning for ten years long and facing the most extraordinarily dangerous creatures and people. Why would Homer set up this whole exciting experience with all the strange comings that Odysseus has to go through, if this was not to show that this stong and intelligent man is a great hero of the Greek world? What will a strong itelligent hero of greek times look like?…

One characteristic that Odysseus presents is being insensible towards his crew members. An example of this is when Odysseus and his men are trapped in the Cyclopes cave, Odysseus says “Now came the time to toss for it: who ventured along with me? Whose hand could bear to thrust and grind that spike in Cyclops eye” (279). This shows that Odysseus fails to symbolize what his members are feeling. For this reason because Odysseus want to decide who to help him brawl Cyclops with a toss of a coin, he does not show a heroic decision. Each time when Odysseus does something wrong the Gods, particularly Zeus, would give his men troubles on Odysseus’s actions. For example, just after wanting to depart the island, Zeus “disdained the offering: destruction for my ships he had in shore and death for those who sailed them, my companions” (512). This shows Odysseus has disobeyed Zeus; leading him to destruct Odysseus’s ships and men. Proving that Odysseus is endangering his crew members by his absent of feeling towards others. Not only does Odysseus lack feeling, but is untrustworthy to his peers.…

He finally learns his lesson, after everything he has been through. Odysseus might not be a hero at the beginning of the novel; he is certainly by the…

While he was extremely driven by one goal, getting back home to his family, he performed some not-so heroic deeds on his quest and once he arrived back in Ithaca. Odysseus had many affairs and was disloyal to his wife, slaughtered hundreds of people in the name of righteousness, and above all, exemplifies hubris, or arrogant pride. These traits and behaviors are not acceptable for anyone, especially a person considered to be and hailed as a hero. Odysseus is not the epitome of an epic hero.…
