Informative Speech: How To Shoot A Basketball
Last week in my communications class, I gave an informative speech on How to Shoot a Basketball. During my speech, my teaching Dr.Coleman had everyone in the class write two positives and two improvements on how I presented my speech. I received about 17 evaluations from my peers so I got a lot of feedback. Some of the positive feedback I got were good eye contact, seemed confident and that I was loud and clear. While the negative feedbacks said; I need to slow down, project my voice better, and I need to move more. Although these are some of the feedback I got I want to focus on the top two positives and improvements. Lets begin with the good news first which are the positive comments. The top two positive feedback I got were encouraging to hear. The number one positive feedback were from nine students that said I had used a good demonstration to help them better understand how to shoot a basketball. The second highest positive feedback I got was by six students who said my information was good, very clear, and transitions and points were easy to follow. I will keep these in mind for my persuasive speech knowing that my audience likes demonstrations and well organized speech. …show more content…
The biggest improvement I need to make according to eight students is that I need to have better eye contact and scan the room. The second highest complaint was that I lost track or seemed lost during my speech. When I see these improvements that I have to make I can tell you that I won’t make the same mistake in my persuasive speech. I am confident I won’t hear these improvements because for my persuasive speech I will better prepare myself and practice enough times to where I don't get lost or have to look down so much. Also, I will right “scan audience" on my note card just in case I begin to look down for no

1988 at the Chicago Stadium, Michael “Air” Jordan leaped from the free-throw line during the Gatorade Slam-Dunk Contest, a moment that fans of Jordan and the sport alike will not soon forget. It wasn’t the first time the Air Jordan sneaker was seen by the public, but it did help to explain the reason why twenty-nine years later, human beings are being murdered for a pair. The shoe itself, has become a collectable item to some, and a symbol of irrational power and fame over others. Currently there is a release of retroed Jordans every month, and every month men and teenagers alike stand in lines in anticipation of the doors of their local sneaker stores to open and begin the sale of the shoes. Air Jordan shoes have become such an overly-exaggerated trend that even the poor are paying hundreds of dollars to be seen…

Know the audience you want to persuade: You need to get an idea of what your audience already knows about the problem or issue. Ask yourself, has your audience been influenced by misconceptions, does your audience have a narrow perspective, is your audience as clear on the problem or issue as you are, and more. Getting to know your audience as much as possible will help you to persuade them by using the answers to these questions to present your ideas.…

Basketball was invented in December 1891 by the Canadian clergyman, educator, and physician James Naismith. Naismith introduced the game when we were an instructor at the Young Men's Christian Association Training School (now Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts. At the request of his superior, Dr. Luther H. Gulick, he organized a vigorous recreation suitable for indoor winter play. The game involved elements of American football, soccer, and hockey, and the first ball used was a soccer ball. Teams had nine players, and the goals were wooden peach baskets affixed to the walls. By 1897-1898, teams of five became standard. The game rapidly spread nationwide and to Canada and other parts of the world, played by both women and men; it also became a popular informal outdoor game. U.S. servicemen in World War II (1939-1945) popularized the sport in many other countries.…

During this persuasive speech, I once again started out slow (meaning during the introduction), but it eventually progressed and was much more easier to understand compared to the Informal Speech I had previously given. As soon as I had gotten more comfortable, it started to flow much better. My transitions between paragraphs made it clearer for my audience to follow. My points used were difficult to come by, but the goal of the speech to persuade my audience was still there and was still effective. If the points were more clear, the speech would have been better than it allegedly turned out. I do not have much strengths during my speeches, but what I can do to get better is to think of what I am going to say during my speech with the help…

Attention- getter: What would you do if somebody came into this classroom and pointed a gun at you as if they were going to kill you for no reason? First thing that would come to mind is, “Am I really going to die right now” and “Why is a person on campus with a gun trying to kill people?” Sad part is, an event like this has happened many times in the past. For instance, the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting as well as the Colorado movie theatre shooting that all took place within the past year[example]. These mass shootings have brought up the issue of controlling who is able to purchase guns and if it is safe and necessary to roam around in public armed with a weapon.…
