Alisan Porter has released music before, but it has been a year and a half since she put out her last album. Alisan shared that it was hard to put herself out there, but she is doing it anyway.

"I was nervous about putting myself back into something so public and going back into a career, especially since I have kids now and I've been a stay-at-home mom for three and a half years. I've just really enjoyed the process and it's fueled the fire again within me."

I love songs from that era, I love kind of blending folk and rock and country, so I felt like I wanted to sing a classic with all those elements and that was really something I thought would work and I love that song."

Alisan Porter stands a great chance, but she still has a long way to go to be the last one standing and the winner of this season. With Christina on her side, it does look like Alisan will be working hard on her music career and you never know what will happen next for this Curly Sue star.

Now Alisan Porter is on The Voice instead of playing Curly Sue. She will be on Team Christina and stands a good chance of winning the show. Don't miss new episodes on NBC.

While sappy and slow hits are the usual characteristics of a Carrie Underwood song, she changes her style with a more optimistic tune. It opens with an upbeat rhythm on the keyboard. Then, a bluesy beat is introduced with the sounds of a guitar, violin, and drum set. The tune fades lower to stress the importance of the lyrics when she begins to sing. She uses variations of medium and low pitches to show off her perfect country vocals. She begins with a low and sassy voice, but shifts to a more medium tone at times. While she starts the chorus, the music gets louder and an arrogant attitude is heard through her voice. The music is also very joyful because she resolves the situation in her own terms. This angry, yet cheerful, melody is very different from what Underwood's fans are used to hearing.…

The lady that sings the blues was known as Billie Holiday or Lady Day to many. Billie Holiday was the greatest female jazz singer in American history. Billie started out as a young girl who, like her idols of Bessie Smith and Louis Armstrong turned whatever material she was given into a piece of art of her own. Billie Holiday stated “I hate straight singing. I have to change a tune to my own way of doing it. That’s all I know.” Billie Holiday sang as if she knew her music had so much emotional power that she had to distance herself from it…

Singing the Star Spangled Banner at the 2003 Super Bowl was a true honor for Natalie Mines and all members of the Dixie Chicks. Their faces glittered with excitement, knowing that most American’s were watching their tribute to our Nation. The Dixie Chicks consisted of two sisters and a good friend, creating a unity of sisterhood. Weeks after their heartfelt performance in March 2003 the lead singer of the Dixie Chicks Natalie Maines, a mother, a wife, a citizen, and a liberal, blurted out at a concert in London, “Just so you know, we’re ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas.” Natalie knew our country was just about ready to invade Iraq. She was very expressive of our nation’s leader criticizing him…

Gypsy was the second of four Sondheim shows that she starred in. Angela Lansbury played a Mama Rose that was very different from Ethel Merman’s, but was just as compelling. In an interview with New York Magazine, Stephen Sondheim said, “Ethel had one great strength: She knew how to play low comedy because it was in her bones. She knew how to do double takes. But Angie was brought up as an actress, so she had an entirely different take on Rose. Ethel was not one for analysis of character” (Green). Mama Rose in Gypsy earned Lansbury her third Tony. Between Mame and Gypsy, she starred in another Jerry Herman musical, called Dear World. Dear World only ran a few months in 1969, however, Lansbury received a Tony for her performance (Griffin). The next big show that Ms. Lansbury worked on was Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. She originated the role of Nellie Lovett, the quirky, pie-baking side-kick to the titular demon barber. Initially, Stephen’s macabre Sweeney didn’t win over audiences. But at the 1979 Tony’s, the award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical went to Angela Lansbury for her performance in the show (Griffin). The most recent years at age eighty-four, Angela Lansbury appeared in was the Broadway revival of A Little Night Music, another Sondheim show (“Angela Lansbury”). Her musical theatre career was based almost exclusively on the work of composers Jerry Herman and Stephen Sondheim. This speaks very highly of her desirable talent and star power, but also her work ethic and how she carries herself. Both composers work with her more than once and often sought her out for specific roles they were writing or roles that were to be…

Possibly because of her Barbie-doll good looks...but definitely not because of her talent. And we all know the former can only go so far, and American Idol voters proved they'd finally had enough and eliminated Kristy Lee Cook after the Mariah Carey song week. I will admit that the ups and downs of Kristy Lee Cook definitely had me hooked for a brief moment. A record-breaking number of times in the 'bottom three,' yet still escaping elimination; her candid and embarrassing comments to Simon (i.e. "I can blow you out of your socks..."); and little hand-written notes predicting her seat during elimination night... Perhaps that had added to the number of votes Kristy Lee Cook had scraped in to keep her in the competition, helping her escape elimination by the skin of her teeth. But all drama aside, we have to remember that this is a singing competition, and true American Idol fans and loyal voters will eventually prevail when it comes to weeding out the hype vs. the talent. Kristy Lee Cook's performance of "Forever" during the Mariah Carey song night was actually one of her stronger performances. She was able to show off her vocal range while avoiding off-key notes on the softer parts (even though Randy had a different opinion on that), and really seemed to connect with the audience by showing some emotion during the performance. Simon's critique was that Kristy Lee was "smart" but also that it "wasn't great." Regardless, her elimination was not a direct result from the previous night's performance, as many other contestants' eliminations are. Kristy Lee Cook's elimination was a result of an over-time loss of likeability and lack of true talent, and the fact that the remaining American Idol contestants are simply superior entertainers. I will, however, commend Kristy Lee Cook's last performance. She started out her "goodbye song" sitting atop the judges' table, gazing deep into…
