Informative Speech On Hazing In America
Hazing in america has always been a problem and I want to stop it. Some of the things that I’m going to talk about are what is classified as hazing, what is hazing, and how to stop hazing. What should have happened by now is that hazing should have been stopped and I am going to show you why.

Most of you or at least some of you are probably wondering what hazing is. Hazing is most of the time a humiliating thing that you are made to do by other people to join a club, team, fraternity, and other things. One type of hazing that I know happened was a high school hockey team made the freshmen swallow a live goldfish before you can join the team. Another type of hazing is “subtle” hazing where they give the new person or people jobs or chores that other people don’t want to do.

There are people out there who think that hazing is fine but not me. Hazing should be a crime where depending on who bad the hazing was depends on how long they should be in jail. “Hazing includes but is not limited to ant type of physical brutality. Physical activity that subjects the student to unreasonable risk or harm. The consumption of any food, liquid, or substance that subjects the student to unreasonable risk or harm. Any activity that causes or requires the student to perform a task that involves violation of state or federal law.” (Hank Nuwer). Now that you know what is classified as hazing it’s time to stop it.

They way to stop hazing is making sure it doesn't happen. What we need is a law that basically says “If a student is caught hazing a student younger than them that student will be suspended or expelled depending on what the school deems fit.” Another way to stop hazing is to look out for your teammates, club members, or what ever you are in and make sure that they don’t get hazed. Hazing has never been a good thing and is still around if you look close

Although many people look at hazing incidents as a tradition or big joke, it is dangerous and unacceptable behavior. There is a lot that can be done to prevent hazing. Raising awareness that it is wrong is crucial in preventing such incidents as the one in the Seamons v. Snow case. Coaches who consider potential issues before they occur will be better prepared to meet their legal duties (Gaskin, L., 1993).…

There often comes a time in all of our lives when we must each realize that our actions can severely hinder the lives of others. Whether our actions are intentional or unintentional has no relevance, as it is imperative that we sustain the common bond that tie us together as people and dispels any subversive efforts that aim at creating racial barriers. Having been adequately briefed about the event that occurred on campus, I have decided to elucidate how this type of unbecoming behavior completely goes against our moral code and our obligation to treat each other with respect and dignity. First, it is my belief that this type of behavior only contributes to further legitimizing the concept of race and thus, begins to forge social stereotypes that not only marginalize individuals but also makes them susceptible to other discriminatory practices.…

For the last ten to fifteen years, the first day of school at Millburn High School has hosted an event that continues today. Every year, the “popular” seniors send out a “slut list”, slap stickers on student’s backs, blow whistles in faces, and shove students into lockers. The victims of these activities are usually the “popular” incoming freshmen. In 2010, the event gained media attention and the administration has done their best to discontinue this tradition. The administration at Millburn High School will not be able to stop the first day of school activities, and, therefore, should not be involved. The amount of students that participate and the fact that no one will speak up will make it extremely difficult for anyone to stop this tradition.…

Many high schools, colleges, and universities have honor codes or honor systems. These are suppose to stop cheating, stealing, plagiarizing, as well as the consequences of violating the established codes. However, even though students sign honor codes, that doesn't mean that they will stop their behavior. My school, Sheyenne High School, should not establish an honor code, because if a student disobeys the code, they don't have a punishment and wouldn't take honor codes seriously since they don't get caught.…

One of the most effective ways to help prevent hazing is simple: education. According to one source, within the military, the Office of Hazing Prevention has begun to take steps to not just track hazing, but to help eliminate it entirely (Klimas). To do this, the office will grow an incident database, and create new policies, and informing all soldiers of these policies, in order to begin better and more effective practices of reporting and education (Klimas). This same resurgence in awareness is also taking place across colleges as well, as one source reports that a comprehensive approach is the most effective when it comes to preventing many of the most harmful practices of hazing, such as excessive drinking (Allan and…

High school sports are a thing people tend to associate with a lot of other things. Some of them are good, some of them are bad. Their association with these things make people wonder if we should have them in our schools, and the answer is, rather obviously, no. While sports have some benefits, they are more harm than good because of the injuries they cause, the scholarships they don’t provide and the funding it takes from other extracurricular activities.…

Being a student athlete should be a privilege, a reward; it should always come second, after the students education. It seems that student athletes get special treatments, getting away with having low grades, having an extended time to do assignments, or even being excused from them. There needs to be a more strict policy in order to be on a high school sports team and to play in games. After all, high schools do not require students to participate in team or individual sports.…
