Instant Replays Research Paper
Applying instant replays to sports has probably been one of the best conveniences since the 1900s and the 21st century. My argument towards instant replays is to keep them going. Instant replays have been such a benefit to sports fanatics and teams for the past several years. Per NBC Sports columnist Joe Posnanski, “Of course, I have my own solution, one that nobody will like. I say that we have replay in baseball but we don’t let the replay official slow it down. The replay official can watch the ball/person at full speed from different angles. If, at full speed, it’s clear that the wrong call was made on the field, then you overturn it. If it’s not clear at full speed, you don’t overturn the call.” Going off the statement from Joe, Instant …show more content…
It can get stressful for the fans in the stadium to have to sit and wait for the Umpires to make up their minds. ESPN analyst Jon Gruden says, “Everything’s disputed now. “Was he in-bounds?” Was it a turnover?” The ones opposed say, let the people on the field officiate and hold them accountable.” However, Instant Replays reduce the occurring Incorrect calls that could happen during a game. These new Modern day technologies that increase the ability to view what some people think to be controversial plays are taken from multiple angles will make communication between officials on the field and those Coaches in charge a chance to really see what happened. Ultimately, the benefits of Instant Replays outweigh the amount of concerns from Sports fanatics.
In conclusion, Instant replays should be used throughout all sports. Instant replays give you the freedom to look at a confusing play at various angels, and go frame by frame in Slow-motion to make sure the play is called correctly. Most fans and officials agree that instant replays help the Pro game in many ways and welcome it to sports. If we were to keep using instant replays throughout the future, the technologies would improve and it will gain a wider audience and more awesome replays will be

With the game of baseball expanding as quickly as it is, players still find the need to use steroids to improve their game. With the use of steroids use in Major League Baseball, and with the size of players already being bigger than what they use to be, then the smaller players are compelled to use the drug to keep up; there needs to be a change because of power, performance, and safety are lacking. There are only two ways to possibly fix the problem and that would be to either suspend the players for a season or two, or banned them from the league forever.…

Rather than fines and later game suspensions, the NFL should enforce in game benching. This rule would force a player to sit out for the rest of the game if they gave an illegal hit. This would make coaches much wearier and force them to coach their players about legal hits. The NFL should also do more than just punishments of other players but they should speak with sports networks that often show these illegal hits in their top plays. Sportcenter on ESPN is an example that has a segment in their show called “SC Top 10”. Many time illegal hits have been shown on this top 10 because they are glorified by fans and considered jaw-dropping. The NFL has worked with these networks about fans that streak during games, so they should work with them on illegal hits. By doing so these hits won’t be given much attention and eventually lose…

Umpires in baseball have too much power when it comes to deciding calls. A perfect example is umpire Angel Hernandez in an A’s versus Indians game earlier this month. It is believed that “Hernandez refused to overturn the bungled home run call in Wednesday 's A 's/Indians game because he opposes instant replay in baseball. The claim may be impossible to prove, but there 's logic to the theory. Video of the play in question provided clear evidence. It was a home run.” (Malafronte, 1) Just because an umpire opposes instant replay doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be shown. Umpires should not have the power to decide not to show a replay just because they don’t want to. If a replay is necessary it should be shown. A rule needs to be established that if a play is too close to call then it should be up to instant replay to decide.…

Inevitability is the strongest stance that the leaders on the National Football League have against the concussion controversy. Football is one of the most barbaric, brutal sports played in America it is a high contact sport that is known for the big hits during crucial moments in a game. Because of the nature of the game there has always been protective equipment that the players are required to wear, one of the most important being the helmet. Players are signing contracts with various teams knowing that they are involved in a contact sport and that there is a guarantee that they will be hit. (Rovell) There is no way to stop a player from the opposing team that is running at their full speed to just stop on a dime and not make contact with a player, it simply goes against physics. Rules have recently been put in place fining players for helmet to helmet contact but you cannot knock out the contact entirely without changing the…

While there aren’t as many as there are positive these also need to be looked at. The major negative affect is that the referee’s may now have too much power. They were given the ability to make a player leave the field if they appear to have a concussion. This could end up being a problem, the referees are trained to look for the signs of a concussion but they still are not medical experts. The officials could send players who have no sign of a concussion to the sideline to get check out while continuing the game. It’s hard to enforce repercussions on the officials because it’s a judgment call. One owner said “We do not expect this to be a rule that gets used a lot.” (Chicago Tribune) While they may not expect it to get utilized a lot they have no control of the officials…

The Centers for Disease control estimates more than 300,000 sports-related concussions occur each year in the United States, according to source one. With advancements in science, the coaches and spectators are not as nervous to watch football games because serious injury is not as common. But more can be done! For instance making the facemask softer can help prevent injury because it will make players think twice before sticking their head in a big hit situation. In this case, fear of damaging the face is more of a risk then a big fine, which most players face after making an illegal hit. As science advances, it will give the players more confidence to step on the field.…

For example, there is a scoreboard and also a speaker system so that all the fans can hear news about the game. The scoreboard is used to keep track of the score that the two teams have. The scoreboard also tells how much time is left in the quarter. You can also use the scoreboard to see what quarter the game is in and how many timeouts each team has left. The JUMBATRON is also a piece of technology. The JUMBATRON is used to see a closer view of the field. The closer view is for the fans that are not close to the field or are very high up in the stands. Also, last but not least, the communication system between the coach and the quarterback. There are many purposes for the communication system like sending out plays and saving time. With the communication system, quarterbacks don’t have to run back and fourth between the sideline and the huddle. This saves time and energy for the quarterback. All the pieces of technology used in the NFL are important but in my opinion, the communication system between the coaches and quarterback is the most…

So changing the rules to the game is not the only place changes need to be made. A focus on improving safety equipment is extremely important as well, mainly the helmets. “A company, Xenith, markets a model with shock absorbers within the helmet… [to] soften the impact to the head… [Xenith] surveyed 540 players using the helmet and found reports of only three concussions” (Geregory). If the helmet could be proven, by an outside source, to greatly decrease the amount of concussion to our football players, than this uniquely designed helmet is a product that would be worth the NFL and leagues everywhere to invest money…
