One of the critical issues that I see as a concern when integrating technology in social work is the privacy and confidentiality that is shared between teams and networks of an organization. Liégeois and Eneman (2015) discuss how it is important for organizations need to share information in order to provide care to a client through collaboration of a team of a network. Thus, it is inevitable that information will be shared, therefore it is crucial that there is a shared responsibility to ensure that confidentiality and privacy is maintained within these teams and networks. Typically, this information is shared through technology systems or an email. No matter how this information is shared, there must be a secure system in place that prevents the possibility of breach of information. Unfortunately, we have learned in this course that there is not a 100% guarantee that using online secure networks will ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained. Overall, this issue needs to always be discussed and addressed within the social work practice.
