Inter-professional practice plays a vital role in improvement of health care services. The health care services become accessible, with high quality services (Farrell, Payne, & Heye, 2015). Likewise, patients find the services provided to be continuous and reliable. For instance, if there is a large number of patients admitted to a hospital, nurses assess the patients and maintain the records for the doctors. Therefore, doctors do not have to deal with the patients for the longer time. Consequently, doctors can check more patients in short period of time. This can shorten the length of hospital stay of a patient. Moreover, the emphasis on wellness, prevention of illness and adverse incidents, management of chronic illness and increased capacity in health care system can be noticed (IOM, as cited in Farrell, Payne, & Heye, 2015). Similarly, Inter-professional collaboration leads to defragmentation in health care system and health service providers (Farrell, Payne, & Heye, 2015). High quality communication between healthcare practitioners as well as with patients has been shown to lead to positive consequences (Ammentorp, Sabroe, Kofod, & Mainz, as cited in Watson, Heatley, Gallois, & Kruske, 2016). Communication also acts as a channel to manage workplace (Haig, Sulton, & Whittington, as cited in Watson, Heatley, Gallois, & Kruske, 2016). Effective information sharing strategies used in inter-professional practice can ensure safe and evidence based care for women and infants (Watson, Heatley, Gallois, & Kruske, 2016). Likewise, Watson, Heatley, Gallois, and Kruske (2016) mention about social identity theory which has been applied to organizational groups to generate understanding of how members relate one another based on professional identities. Inter-professional educational meetings provide an interface to share ideas and decision making. Electronic information sharing through computers has led to reliability and confidentiality (Osbiston, 2013). Therefore, communication in inter-professional collaboration is crucial for positive patient
