The story of Romeo and Juliet has been going on and repeated since Shakespeare’s time. But it’s really known because of the conflict between the two families. If there wasn’t any conflict it would just be another story about love. Conflict is the secret ingredient to a drama story, that’s what makes it a drama. The conflict between these two families creates tension and what we call “forbidden love”, the two lovers want to be with each other so bad they will die rather than to be with someone else. But their families disagree, which makes the whole story dramatic.
Internal conflict in the play helps us understand character motivations and decisions. Their decisions drive to the plot, and the audience feels tension waiting for outcomes of decisions. Conflict is the secret ingredient to the drama it really pulls in the viewer to create suspicion and help them understand the character and the plot more. One such internal conflict is when Juliet debates with herself to whether take the potion or not. The audience wonders what will happen when the prince sees that Tybalt and Mercutio are dead but Romeo missing. The when Balthazar comes up and tells him what happened then the audiences calms down. But suddenly the Capulet’s come in to the situation and wait for the words of the Prince. The prince goes against the rules a little bit since Mercutio was his king’s men he doesn’t educate Romeo he only exiles him and will only educate Romeo if he sees him.
