International Product Life Cycle Theory
Yanko Petrov, CEO of a Bulgarian based dairy products manufactuer is gathering information to consider foreign direct investment and a location for their new product. Since this is a new product (special kind of feta cheese) and is not being sold anywhere, I would recommend following the international product life cycle theory.

The international product life cycle theory constitutes 3 different stages for a "brand new product". The first stage is "new product", which recommends that the product is produced in the home country. Yanko has several advantages in doing this because he already has a dairy manfacturering plant Bulgaria. Keeping the intial product manufactuerering close to home will the research and development departments to readily availble receiving sample products. Yanko also appears to have experience in producing other dairy products milk, yogurt, cheese, etc. ) which gives him an advantage. Next, the maturing product stage is when the product is monitored for the highest demanding area. Normally, a production facility is built in this country to meet the demanding needs of the product whichs prepares the company to reduce production cost. It is always wise to find a country that can produce the product at the lowest possible cost. Finally, the standardized product stage allows for the product to compete locally or globally. This is one of the most important stages of the international lifecycle.

When companies stop trying to sell what they make and start making what consumers want to buy they will be successful and understand marketing. For an organization to be successful, it needs to continue to grow, produce, and maintain profitability. If a company becomes stagnant they could fail. A great example of this concept is the United States auto industry. In the 1970s Japanese manufactures began selling smaller fuel efficient vehicles whereas the United States automakers continued to make large fuel inefficient vehicles. The Japanese recognized an unfulfilled niche in the market and past events validated the research indicating there was a market for the new vehicles. General Motors went through hard times in the recent past for similar reasons. While foreign automakers identified consumers wanted an electric or hybrid vehicle, they set out to produce one. Honda and Toyota both sold hybrid vehicles while General Motors new Volt is not scheduled to hit markets until 2011.…

Improvement of a theory is on the improvement of the assumption. H-O theory is still a comparative statistical international trade which almost all variable is considered as exogenous or fixed (the changing is specified outside the model). It made there is a tendency that discussing international trade is just talked around assumption. In reality a lot of variable in H-O theory had changed in endogenous model, so it cannot be generally applied. It can only represent trading between labor-rich country and capital-rich country which only 40% of international trading volume. Further this theory weakness gives the opportunity of emergence of new international trade that can also represent another 60% of international trade in developed country, which is PLC theory. The new theory uses dynamic variable as driving motives of international trade and also can explains about the background of emergence the multinational corporation.…
