In our generation today, the topic about Internet Addiction was widely known and this could be the possible reason why I chose and made a reflection paper out of this article. I could say that we are living now in a technological and modernized world. Although, some individuals may not include themselves as a so-called “techie person” or (an expert and professional individuals when it comes to technologies) but nowadays ‘MOST’ of us may conclude that we are capable and using internet as well. Some says that Internet is so enjoyable and made them almost addictive.

When I read the given article, I noticed that much of the subjects are youths and it was about to discussed the serious issues of Internet Addiction including the people from South Korea. I also observed that counselors were introduced, so as the given therapy like screening individuals were applied. This observation, made me realized that youths nowadays are prone to addiction, like smoking, drinking, online gaming and addictive to social media sites. Especially in South Korea, the issue that has been discussed with regards to addiction to internet made them becomes rebellious. Maybe, this could be the impact of addiction to them.

As far as I know, being addictive to internet is one of the common problems of most societies. It’s difficult to neglect or avoid this kind of behavior especially if you were an adolescent. There are circumstances that you will encounter in your life. First, when it comes to family, instead of giving or spending time with your parents, you prefer to stay at home because you want to play games on internet. This example was based on my brother’s situation. Second was lack of communication, I have a cousin of mine who was very shy and timid, but when it comes to social media (e.g. twitter), I could probably say that she is very different. I think this is because she really admired Justin Bieber and made herself preoccupied on

Answer: In the article, “Internet Addiction”, Greg Beato’s main purpose or main idea is about how Internet affects people’s lives because of being addicted on the Internet. The author states that people that are addicted on the Internet turns out to be out of their minds and having some kind of disorder. He explains and gives examples specifically of people being addicted on the Internet. He also cites lots of evidence to support his thesis statement. The first evidence that Greg Beato put up to is about how many people are using Internet on their daily life basis. Greg Beato said, “The internet is a tool that many of us use on a day-to-day basis. We use it to communicate, interact socially, keep up-to-date with news, play games, took up information and provide us with an unending supply of inspiration and entertainment”. Another evidence that Greg Beato wrote about on his article is about those people who gone mad and had lost their minds. First, a student from Harvard lost his scholarship because of spending too much of his time playing video games. Second, a guy who stays at his computer for hours to play games, which developed a blood clots in his leg and had amputated. And lastly, an 18-year-old guy who chose to move out from his parents rather than to quit playing Internet games. Many teenagers had lost their social life because their attention is all about video and Internet games. They don’t have the time to interact to people because their focus is to stay at home and play all day. Greg Beato said, “In 2007, an Ohio teenager shot his…

When researchers presented evidence to people that the internet causes addiction, depression, and psychological discombobulation, they resounded,“‘What’s next? Microwave abuse and Chapstick addiction’” (Dokoupil). Truthfully, people find the evidence impossible to fathom. The Internet allows us to instantly access the business world, keep in touch with our friends, and make our work easier. It would seem that the benefits would far outweigh any problems. Serious problems, however, can occur to Internet users when they use the Internet far too much. Evidence shows that excessive Internet use can damage people's intelligence, hinder relations and cause depression, and can impose on people a virtual world or an altered sense of reality.…

"Internet addiction disorder [IAD] refers to the problematic use of the Internet, including the various aspects of its technology, such as electronic mail (email) and the World Wide Web ("Internet Addiction Disorder", 1). There are various symptoms that can lead to IAD which include: failed attempts to control Internet usage; neglecting sleep and family/friends; withdrawal from other activities; use the Internet to “get away” from everyday life or situations, etc (Netaddiction.com, 2). Not only are there many signs of IAD, but also different types. Pornography addiction is one of the leading internet addictions, with 12% of the total number of websites are pornography sites. Video game addiction is also a large factor in internet addiction because of the large amount of MMORPG’s (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). The average MMORPG gamer will spend 20-25 hours per week on a game. Internet social interaction addiction is the most problematic of the three addictions because of the reliance of new social media including Facebook, Twitter, and Instant Messaging (“Internet Addiction Disorder” 2). Though each addiction has different orientations, they all can lead to the same risks if exaggerated.…

On that premise, the use of the Internet should not be abused or taken in abundance. Weinstein and Lejoyeux (2010), suggest that Internet Addiction starts off innocently but overtime the user will have developed a better grasp on technology and the web, thus their time spent over the Internet will increase efficiently. Chak and Leung state that people who religiously browse the web have really low self-esteem and suffer from mental disorders. “Past researches have indicated that some patterns of Internet use are associated with loneliness, shyness, anxiety, depression, and self-consciousness” (p. 559). The sentiment expressed in the quotation embodies the view that the idea of the Internet is so comforting and alleviating as it promotes salvation and autonomy for people who are socially disconnected and self-conscious. Nalwa and Anand (2004), parallel a similar outlook to Chak and Leung. “... IAD develops as an escape from other problems” they said, “like anxiety or depression...” Although Griffiths (2000), sympathises with the addicts with mental health issues, he believes that what they’re doing is treacherous and will only lead to self-destruction. To make his point through, he negatively mentions the physical and mental aftermath that comes within having an Internet addiction. He claims that people who suffer from this disorder tend to procrastinate and usually gain weight from sitting down in front of a screen for too long. This idle state also causes somatic pain, such as back cramps and muscle soreness, as well as poor eyesight and vision impairment. Finally, Nalwa and Anand suggest that people who have an Internet disorder should start taking pharmaceutical prescriptions. “Such as antidepressants or anti-anxiety drugs… “ they said, because “it…
