During my internship I have had the opportunity to watch and learn from those around me. I was able to learn about different leadership styles and how people reacted to the managers. My internship offered a couple different challenges. The most difficult challenge was learning to work with difficult people. There were many times that I wanted to just give up, but I had to learn that no matter where I work I am likely to encounter at least one person that I think is tough to work with. After accepting this truth, I was able to overcome the overwhelming urge to change jobs. Even though many of my tasks seemed repetitive, from time to time, there were small changes made that helped make simple tasks complicated.
In my first learning objective, I set out to learn how to become a better leader. I wanted to know what gave the managers the confidence to perform their job at a high level. Through questioning various managers, I was able to determine that experience played a major role in helping build their confidence. I was able to learn this lesson first hand. At the morning rallies, I was hesitant to speak because I wasn’t sure if I would give inaccurate information. What I learned is, the more I spoke, then the more likely I was to make sure the information I gave was accurate. As a result, I was able to gain confidence over time, and the associates trusted me as a source of information. For example, I learned how to be familiar with the new payment procedure before the rally so that by the time the rally began I knew what exactly to say. As a result of me stepping up in the absence of my supervisor, Nancy and Allison both gave me a star rewards
