Internship Position As An Immigration Service Intern
I would like to apply for a Spring 2016 internship position as an Immigration Service Intern. I learned about your non-profit organization through Faculty Student Mentor Program, Sociology Peer Mentors at Sacramento State University.

I am currently majoring in Sociology at the California State University, Sacramento and will be graduating this spring. While, I believe it is very important to learn Sociological theory and methodology, it is necessary to implement learned material in practice to gain experience and skills.
Serving the community, specifically refugees, will not only provide me with the skills and experience in immigration services but also will enhance my general understating of cultural diversity. Therefore, I am seeking an internship at International Rescue Committee to serve the community by providing my educational knowledge and eagerness to learn.

Likewise, I hope to gain valuable experience by working as an Immigration Service Intern, which I can apply to my educational goals.

Being a refugee myself, I am aware of the struggles refugees face and the processes they have to go through to obtain legal status in the United States. The barriers of learning English and the assimilation are very difficult to overcome, which is why it is important to provide the refugees with the individuals, who can relate their culture background and ongoing struggles.

I would like an opportunity to meet with you to discuss internship opportunities you have available. Please let me know if you have any questions. You can reach me by phone at (916) 384-5387 or by email at

One of the major problems facing the United States is whether or not to take in refugees from war and poverty ravaged countries throughout the world. The refugee issue has been highly debated by many politicians. These governors believe that further security measures should be in place to screen refugees for terrorist tendencies. My most productive encounter was with Brandon from TIAA Cref. He did a great job of explaining what my role within the organization would be as an intern and how that role would expand with a full-time job. He also explained that his company was looking for interns in both of the fields I’m interested in. The only downside was that the closest location is in Charlotte, NC and I definitely need to stay in the Upstate area over the summer. Other than that, my brief encounter with Brandon was a success as I left my resume’ and contact information.…
