Interview Paper

January 27, 2012 was the first time I met Paulina. She seemed very sweet and kind. During class she had been quiet and soft spoken, so I didn’t know a lot about her. In fact, I didn’t know that she was from California until Dr. Craig something. I liked her a lot, and I felt like she was a great person. I wanted to get to know her better, so it seemed like the interviews between all of us was a great idea. I had very few speculations of why Paulina is the person that she is today, until I heard the interview between Paulina and Sally. During Paulina’s interview, she was still that sweet, quiet girl, but I learned a lot about her. The experiences in her life have shaped her to be the way that she is, just like mine have shaped me. From her interview, I gathered that her frames of reference include her age, culture, genes, gender, race, upbringing, and experiences.

Paulina is a young adult female from a stereotypical Mexican family in California. Paulina has been through a lot in her short life. One of her greatest fears is that she would become a drug dealer like her father. It would be easy to do that at home, because it’s expected that you do what your parents do. She said that she wanted to get far away from home, so that she wasn’t tempted into that lifestyle. She saw what living like that can do to a person, and she didn’t want to be that way. She wants to study law and get into a good school. She chose to leave her home to better herself. Instead of falling into the tracks that her parents made, Paulina wants to do better for herself and be an upstanding citizen who makes a good life for herself and her family. Before this interview, I would not have guessed that that was her life.

It astonishes me that we all face such large struggles. Paulina comes from a shady background, but she’s one of the sweetest people you could meet. It’s hard to come from a background like that today. Too many people are judgmental. They would see where she came from and
