In the book into the wild by John Krakauer, Chris Mcandles aka (Alex super tramp) is a very good example of a modern day transcendentalist because Chris was very insightful; he had self reliance and was able to live off the land. Christopher Johnson McCandless was an American adventurer. He ventured into the Alaskan wilderness in April 1992 with barely any food and equipment, hoping to live for a time in solitude. Almost four months later, McCandless's starved remains were found in a bus.
In th book into the wild Chris is a transcendentalist because he was very insightful. If you look up the word insightful the descrpition is somone who has a deep understanding for something. McCandless went into the wilderness not primarily to ponder nature or the world at large but, rather, to explore the inner country of his own soul." ~ Jon Krakauer, Into The Wild), p183. in this qoute chris is saying that if you just live on what people telling you what to do you will never find meaning in life. You have to just keep on searching. When chris died many people questioned him on why he would go into the wild to find his true meanings in life but at the end of the novel the auther states” Me, Roman, Andrew, and I stay up well past midnight, trying to make sense of McCandless’s life and death, yet his essence remains slippery, vague, elusive.” Chris found his true meaning but no one lese could, that is because Chris had a deep understanding of himself in the wild alone.
In the novel into the wild Chris fits the description of a transcendentalist because he was self reliant. In the book Chris was never happy with people except on topics he liked to talk about but he was most happy alone in into the wild Chris states that “Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace like the triumph of principals” {Krakauer 45} he is
