Into The Wild Chapter 3 Summary
The story begins in a dark thick forest where an old cottage is left standing. The cottage shows a strong need of renovation for its worn down walls and windows. There lives a family of three who are slowly struggling with their income. The father, Arthur, works daily trying to support the family, but with this constant struggle, he is still unable to pay for rent or even put food on the table. Arthur spoke tiredly, “ We are almost out of bread ”. Arthur son, James, reply, “ I know father, I will journey off tomorrow into the forest to that nearby town, in search of a good stable job.” Father, with some excitement, “ I believe in you son.” As the night rolls to morning, James prepares for his departure and his farewell to his parents. “ …show more content…
Eventually the dirt path comes to an end at a big wooden sign that reads “ turn back now ” With a puzzled face, he murmured, “ Did they change the route to the town or is this the wrong direction.” As he was about to turn back when he hears some rustling leaves coming from behind. Heart pounding he turns his back slowly and awaits whatever beast to pop out of the bush. To his surprised it was just a dog. The dog, big and gray, begins to speak, “ What you looking for kid”. James replied, “ I’m trying to go to the town up ahead, but I seem to have lost my sense of direction”. The dog runs off and yells , “ Look no further, your …show more content…
As James replys, “ how do you know that I need help…” the dog however was already gone. Puzzled, James continue to walk forward despite what the sign has stated. After a couple of hours, James notice that he is completely lost surrounded by trees and the occasional sounds of bushes rustling. Eventually passing a creek, he see’s a long structure up ahead. It was a long spiral tower standing all by its lonesome. As James thought to himself, “ Could this be where I find the wizard” like what the dog had told him. James slowly walked down the pathway onto the front door. Started out with a single knock than two than three. He was about to give up when he suddenly hears a cough than a couple of footsteps coming closer to the door. The door slowly creaks open and a old man in his sixty with a long white bread came out. The old man opens his eyes trying to adjust his vision towards the light. James speaks curiously, “ Are you the wizard that..”. The wizard interrupted, “ hold your horses, who are you?” Taking a closer look, “ ahh I been expecting you.” James startled, “ expecting me.” “ Yes, I have seen you coming to seek for help”. “ No, I came to ask
