Everest and everyone soon arrives at base camp. We are quickly introduced to the fellow climbers and guides, how old they are, and their occupation; That is the only background knowledge that we receive. The movie creates a better visual of what the camps looked like, and how horrible and frightening the storm really was. The story was originally told by Jon Krakauer, who went along on the trip as a newspaper writer. He later turned his frightening, but memorable experience into the well known book, “Into Thin Air”. Because this story was created by a famous and professional author, the work is much more organized and masterly. In the movie we got to visually see how the climbers reacted to both the joy of summiting, and the fearfulness of the storm, which is something that we didn’t get to visually see in the book “My Everest Story”. We also learned how some groups created different rules than others, such as the turnaround time, which was a big issue in the movie, and is the main reason why some climbers didn’t make it off the mountain. The movie created more of a heart pounding, adrenaline rush than the book did. For one reason, Mark never got to summit because of an injury, and Mark and the rest of his group were safely inside their tents during the storm, unlike the groups in the movie. The movie was more action packed and emotional than the book, but following Mark through his entire journey was fun and
