General Guidelines: Due: November 14th in class
The book review will be 6-10 pages double-spaced.
Edit for grammar and punctuation.
Cite page numbers for direct quotes.
Use the following as an outline for your review.
I. Introduction.
a. For every heading in part II, write 2-3 lines.
II. Facts.
a. Overall perspectives – what was covered.
b. How does the coverage relate to the course?
c. Bias/contradictions – does the author show bias or contradict himself or herself? Give examples.
d. Faults/problems – discuss crucial issues here.
e. Target audience – who is it?
What is practically useful for the intended audience?
What appears overly esoteric/theoretical for this audience?
III. Summary/Conclusions
a. Discuss overall strengths/weaknesses.
b. Discuss how this book influences your view of Globalization.
c. To whom (if anyone) would you recommend this book?
d. If applicable, compare/contrast with similar books you have read.
Presentation Instructions
Each group will combine individual book reviews into one 15 min. presentation.
Presentation should include PowerPoint slides so the audience can follow your presentation (Make sure the slides are readable if you were sitting in the back of the room.)
Each group member must participate in the development phase of the presentation; however, it is not necessary for everyone to speak during the presentation.
Each group should be prepared to answer questions regarding the presentation and information contained in the book review.
Tips:
1. Try not to read slides or notes. (Practice your presentation)
2. You should have approximately 20 slides for a 15 min. presentation.
